When it debuted on ABC in the fall of 1969, the sitcom "The Brady Bunch" instantly became a huge hit show. Originally the brainchild of producer Sherwood Schwartz, the show has gone on as a classic of popular culture. The concept is a simple one, similar to that of the film "Yours, Mine And Ours"; a widowed father and a widowed mother, each with 3 children, decide to get married, thus making a larger family. Episodes in the first season chronicled the family learning to adjust to its new circumstances and become a unit, as well as typical childhood problems such as dating, rivalries and family squabbles and the fact that their house had four bedrooms for two married adults, one housekeeper, and six children. A recurring character was Alice's boyfriend, Sam Franklin (Allan Melvin), the owner of a local butcher shop. Another memorable element of this program were the impressive number of celebrities that made guest appearances on varied episodes. Among them were Desi Arnaz, Jr., Don Ho, Davy Jones (of The Monkees), Joe Namath, Jackie Coogan and baseball hall-of-famer Don Drysdale. There are even guest spots from both Jim Backus and Natalie Schafer (both of whom had been on "Gilligan's Island"). This remarkable 21-disc DVD boxed set contains all 117 episodes of all 5 seasons; from the debut "The Honeymoon" to the series finale "The Hair-Brained Sceme". There is also a brilliant selection of bonus material that helps to shed new light into this unique series. The cast all went on to appear in several spin-off productions as the Bradys. But, it is this one that they are best known for. After 40 years, it is still a lot of fun.Read full review
The Brady Bunch - The Complete Series was a heart strings purchase. I grew up loving the Brady's and I have an adult handicapped daughter who has grown to love them as much as I do. This series is as perfect as I remember it and to be able to laugh and even cry with your child is an amazing experience. My daughter is turning 30 the day after Christmas and though she opened this gift early, we have already enjoyed many hours of laughter and tears (with the Christmas episode). Share something positive with your children, give them what we had growing up, a positive role model. Well worth the purchase and the memories are fantastic!
This DVD collection is definitely everything Brady. My kids started watching some reruns on TV recently and couldn't get enough of them. I found this collection for a Christmas present and it has been on non-stop since it was opened. I felt like the price was better per season than buying the individual seasons separately, and there are bonus specials included in the full collection. The packaging is so cool. It reminds me of the shag carpet we had in the house when I was a child and actually watching the program myself. I highly recommend this product for any fan of the Brady's who want to introduce their children or grandchildren to a more wholesome type of TV show than what is available today. The only negative I have is that you need to protect the packaging for the long term. It can be torn up easily if not taken care of. The main case does not "lock down" and all the DVD's are packaged in a "paper fan" inside. Still totally worth the purchase!!Read full review
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT IT: This is the classic, uncut, g-rated series that we kids watched in the early 70s and can now share with our own children. The absence of profanity and violence, and the presence of positive character traits such as selflessness, honesty and consideration for others is refreshing. As for the audio-visual quality, this DVD set gets an A. The images/colors are great, as is the sound. ONE DRAWBACK: The DVDs don't "rewind" the same way that a VHS tape does. If you want to play a few lines over again, you have to go back to the beginning of the whole scene and watch that scene from the outset. WHY WE BOUGHT IT: The episodes are completely uncut! No commercials! No more trying to "catch" an episode to record on tape (which would eventually deteriorate anyway).
What can be said about a time where family really were in tune with each other ? Today , it seems to be all about a small electronic device stuck to the palm of one's hand... The Brady Bunch was pure fun and safe to watch for everyone , this DVD collection is outstanding and a joy to have, I did not hesitate for a moment to purchase it . The shag carpet that encases the discs is a hoot , I remember back then using a carpet rake to fluff it up , though it took some patience to vacuum ... LOL !! For those who appreciate a lighter side to life and many laughs (especially Jan's atrocious wig blunder) this set is for you...Enjoy !
