I bought this book to discuss at the bookclub I belong to. This book was interesting and I realize that sounds somewhat boring but the reader does get an interesting perspective on the lives of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Tolkas through the eyes of their Vietnamese cook. What is even more fascinating is that the reader gets a view of life in Viet Nam when the French were in charge plus life as a (Gay) Vietnamese man struggling to make a living in France. A very good read.
Real good reading.

Beautiful writing, story is slow to develop at times, but it keeps you wanting to read on

I found this book to be just so so. I tried to read it but found it boring and put it aside.
