It's better to do something on a smaller scale and do it thoroughly, than to try to hit thousands of areas and do a poor job. For example, when it comes to giving calorie counts for dining out, it does not give even a third of the most popular dishes in popular restaurants. It will name maybe, 5 or 6 popular dishes ordered by most people for each restaurant listed, then leave out everything else. I'd rather have a book with just 3 to 5 restaurants listed, where most of the things on the menu for each restaurant are included. So...the book is mediocre. It was cheap enough so there's no complaint about the price, but over the years, I've gotten the cheapie WalMart version and I've gotten more information than this book provides.

The writing is so small, the book is no good to me. It is loaded with calories on recipe food items, which I wonder how can you say how many calories a recipe is if you don't state which recipe was used. 1/2 cup of beef stroganoff could be more than 100 calories off unless you know who made it, since some people add oil to meat dishes. They missed Ramen noodles completely, unless I just can't find it. I do love the restaurant portions and calories, THAT I can use if I squint hard enough, because they name the restaurant. Its a worthwhile book.

I decided to puchase this because I needed a good book to use as a reference to keep my caloric intake where it needed to be. I am really happy with this book. It's been very helpful, and gives insight to the differences in calories between the same foods, that you wouldn't otherwise know. The only thing I don't love is in the "dining out section". It doesn't have very many different restaurants, and some menus were not very inclusive, however you can figure calories based on other info in the book. I would definetly recommend this book if you need an accurate calorie guide. I would buy it again.
In general, this is a great book to have. I am trying myself to lose weight again and wanted something to help me keep a handle on my calorie intake. I like that it has a wide variety of foods and selections in it. I was a little disappointed that it didn't have a wide variety of restraunts with the calories of their menu items. A lot of the restruaunts aren't in my area that are in the book so that part I may not use a whole lot but all in all I am pretty happy with it. I also like that it is small enough to fit almost anywhere (glovebox, purse, on your kitchen counter, ect.).
