The story was superb, the plot was on target and the acting of John Goodman outstanding. The rest of the cast played their parts believablely and, while not an Oscar winner, certainly worth the time to watch, more than once. The Babe is just a great story based on a great baseball player. It has some inaccuracies, that's true, but Goodman pulls off a performance equal to or better than the best of character actors.

I thought The Babe was pretty good, but not great. It took artistic license with too many facts which is always a disappointment for me, because the Babes real story had plenty to write about truthfullly.. John Goodman was better than I thought as the Babe, and he acted the part pretty good. He looked somewhat like the Babe, but not enough for me to be convincing. His legs were much bigger than the Babes. It had some bad parts, but also had good parts, like when visits the sick kid, Facts were wrong again, but it was a moving scene. All in all I think 3 stars out of 5, no more. .

This was a surprisingly enjoyable film about the life and times of Babe Ruth. John Goodman did a great job in his portrayal of Ruth. In practically everything I have read or seen of actual Ruth footage, he even looked the part. Many have referred to Ruth as a great big kid, and Goodman accurately brings this trait to the screen. He was a hard drinking, hell raising, woman chasing individual. In the period of time between 1910-1930, many men still possessed that independence, and lack of conformity to rules, that had been prevalent to the Midwest and the Old West. Professional athletes both then and now, have always been, somewhat unruly, and this only made George Herman Ruth that more colorful.
I bought it for a die-hard baseball fan. I haven't watched it as such, but I know the person who will receive it for a gift will be very happy.
