I did care for this film. It had some good bits, but I found it depressing. I didn't mind the b/w or the minimal dialog, it just felt to much like the film SINGING IN THE RAIN with Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds, or A STAR IS BORN. The people I saw it with loved it. It does have some interesting bits, but it simply didn't move me as all that original. My deepest apologies, I hate to give a film a bad review. But there it is. I hope you get more out of it than I did. Cheers and Blessings, Max Rainet. **If you found this information at all helpful, please take a moment to select the "yes" button below. I know this was a huge oscar winner but honestly the story did not enthrall me as expected. It was no tear jerker like downtown abby. Not incredibly engrossing like say the godfather. Not incredibly ironic like sunset boulevard. No great dance scenes like fred and ginger. No great cinematography like citizen kane. I give this a 6 out of ten. Still not sure what others saw in this.

Entertaining and brilliant. Must see if you love movies and Hollywood history through the ages. Must see means put down your electronics and enjoy paying attention. There are pretty much no speaking lines most of the movie. Watch and be entertained. Worthwhile

This is a GREAT movie. Entirely underrated even by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that awarded it Oscar for Best Picture for that year. This film is not just about the transition from silent to sound, but also about the wave of fear that went through the industry right from the moment Al Jolson sang and said those iconic words "You ain't heard nothin' yet." Well deserved Oscars by those who won, and probably deserved a few more. A must see for film fans.

i thought this movie was good.to me it paid respect to the old silent movies and the style they used back then.my pop used to show me silents.the movie is about a man who does silent films.he is a big star in these movies and well known in tinsle town.he helps an unknown female out to be in a picture with him.then suddenly the filmakers learn to make a movie where you can here the people speak(talkies).the man refuses to go to talkies, because of his pride and he thinks talkies won't last.the femal that the actor helped signs witha talkie movie company.she starts to become famous, because of her looks and her appeal.the actors career starts to plummit as the actress's career starts to skyrocket.the movie is about the rise and fall of the two individuals. check it out.
