The Age of Spiritual Machines lays out in easy to understand terms a future in which machine have surpassed their human counterparts. Depending on your point of view this is wonderful or terrible. Ray Kurzweil does a good job of presenting complex topics like quantum computing and neural science in a manner easily understood by the layman. Ray falls short in not presenting his prognostications and understanding of the physical universe as a belief. In that regard he is pretentious, but if you read most of his supposed factual statements as belief statements, his pretention does not hinder the experience. If you're looking for an easy to read, hard to understand, and thorough examination of what many are now referring to as the "singularity", this book is for you.
