I saw this movie when I was a kid, I got it to show it to my high school sons, it's a neat piece of Americana, a snap shot of small town idealized, disneyfied world. Fred McMurry is excellent as the absent minded prof that leaves his true love not once but 3 times at the altar and pays the price. However, true love wins out, or does it? Way better then the remake with that other guy that's gross funny rather then just funny. Don't forget the sequel to the Absent Minded Professor, "Son of Flubber". I'm still bidding on that, don't outbid me!
I have loved this movie since the day it came out. It is a fun-loving family movie, and true rated G movie that all can see. The professor is genuinely absent -minded in that he keeps missing his wedding due to his obsessing in his lab working on an invention. He by a mishap and an explosion in his lab, discovers and invents flubber on his wedding day that he forgot again. This flubber is a substance that is used in ways that ads to the comedy of this movie, especially in a basketball game. I love this movie. It is a feel good movie, and the actors are genuine and fun-loving. There is not a boring moment in this movie - it captures your attention throughout. It is a keepsake.
I saw this movie as a young man and found it to be a very family oriented movie, and purchased it as a collector's item. This is a DISNEY movie, one of the old Disney movies aimed at wholesome family entertaiment. And as such, it hits the bulls eye. I find the early Disney stuff to be MUCH more wholesome than some of the junk they put out after Walt passed away.
Great Classic A family movie for all
