I purchased this book for my husband-to-be because I thought it would be something beneficial for us to read. (I purchased the women version.) After we sat down to read our books together (silently, of course) we both realized what a waste of time it was. Not because it's a poorly written book, but because neither of us are the types of men and women Dr. Schlessinger discusses. Our relationship is not perfect by any means and we have our ups and downs just like everyone else, but we couldn't help but put the books down and discontinue reading. I am very much the opposite of the women and the problems they call in and talk to Dr. Laura about and my husband-to-be is certainly not the type of man to sit around and wait for the woman to do everything for him and blame situations or behaviors on being "a guy". Unless you are a woman who needs self-reassurance in relationships, cannot make positive, healthy decisions for yourself when it comes to relationships or are a man who cannot think with the correct head when it comes to dealing with how women work, then I would say this book is one to be left unread.Read full review
I knew when my son was barely two and this book was new, that this would be his thirteenth birthday gift. Dr. Laura always advocates being frank and forthright with a child and sharing information THAT WOULD BE OF BENEFIT at an appropriate age. Well, thirteen may have been young to say some things, but in the world we live in now, apparently not to young to be driven over state lines by a stranger for an abortion without your parent's consent. So enter the book that will be a frank discussion of how YOUR SON WON'T BE TO BLAME FOR AN UNWANTED PREGNANCY. I bought a copy back then, read it twice, loaned it out twice and lost it in a move. I finally bought it again for the thirteenth birthday of my son last week. Admittedly, the salient common sense woven throughout this book is written to an older audience. One perhaps that has been around the block and is beng scolded. I would prefer to get this into the hands of EVERY SINGLE YOUNG MAN IN AMERICA B-E-F-O-R-E they are lost in a stupid relationship with a clingy, vapid slut. But since I only have dominion over ONE young man right now, THE TEN STUPID THINGS MEN DO TO MESS UP THEIR LIVES will be the primer of what he should NOT to do with his...um....manhood.Read full review
A great read to give young men some guidance before they cause havoc in their life! Dr. Laura is right on. I think they should have this book in every high school and young men should read it.

Dr. Laura has a love-her or hate-her following. The one thing about her books, they are based on REAL people, real life stories. One thing you can always do and that is learn from the mistakes of others. You don't HAVE to make the same mistakes others have! This was a gift to my high school son. He will pass it on to his brothers.
