I am familiar with Tillie Olsen's excellent novella upon which the film is based. The film does an excellent job capturing the spirit of the novella. The acting is first-rate, especially the performances of the elderly couple as they go through the last major change in their relationship. At times, it is difficult to watch the culmination of two lives who have lived through so much. Though they appear to be different, they do have their common history as immigrants. The film ends with a celebration of lives lived and the dignity of never giving up the fires burning inside.
Video was in good condition, but it was depressing and boring! I had expected an exciting movie with some mystery to it, but was I disappointed! Seeing someone experiencing dementia as they age, remembering some of the past and forgetting the events of the present, does not make for an exciting movie.
