Great, great educational guide. As I progress through the book I am continually impressed with the content, and that the author Stan Gibilisco was able to envision and conceive of the choreography necessary to put such a thorough training presentation together! Stan begins with a Preface to the text presenting his approach with this book. It is divided into four main sections - direct current, alternating current, basic electronics, advanced electronics, and related technology. Only basic math and science knowledge is necessary, Stan says this book can also function as a classroom text. He recommends that approximately one hour a day be spent, which easily makes it possible to complete 1 chapter a week. (Actually, it is easy to complete a chapter much faster than that). Stan remarks the importance of starting at the beginning and progressing through the book without jumping around. This way Stan says in 9 months the entire book can be covered. Most valuable are the quizzes at the end of the chapters, there are hundreds of questions helpful for testing understanding and comprehension, all the answers are in the back of the book along with other tables and reference guides. The quizes are helpful to confirm adequate understanding before progressing further. This is the 3rd edition of the book (2002), and has over 700 pages! I personally worked in the electronics industry doing purchasing, had taken a circuits course at a community college, and have done basic residential wiring work. Unfortunately, I have forgotten most everything I had learned about electricity! I had purchased two new Fluke multi-meters, and did not know how to use them for basic measurements; that is what prompted me to read this book! I highly recommend this book especially when compared to all others ever encountered, this one is perfect! The author starts in the very beginning explaining everything essential to a proper background and understanding of electricity, and progresses through advanced topics. Highly, highly recommended; I will always keep this book!Read full review
A good refresher for someone who has taken electricity/electronics in the past, as well as, appropriate for a beginner.
