I have both the 54 and 58 degree. Still have Z grooves in them and I am re-learning control of all the spin I get on the ball again. Both mine have the KBS Wedge Flex shafts and I love them. I'm 58 years old and had been using 56 and 60 degree wedges before. I had lost 8-10 yards off each wedge in the past few years. I've now re-gained my distance plus I increased the bounce to 12 degree on both. I absolutely love to chip with my 58 degree. Great bite on the ball again and perfect control. Getting out of the sand is even easier with the increased bounce. Two years ago I was a 4.5 handicap but had been steadily going up unti I got to a 9.5. Much of this to do with bad wedge play. I now regularly shoot in the 76-81 range and my handicap is falling rapidly. The only unusual thing is they sound "different" when you hit the ball. Almost sound a little hollow but I think that is just the interchangeable face pocket. All my friends at first said they sound funny and then I let them hit them. Now they want to know where they can buy one. One of my friends was a die-hard Vokey wedge man. He now has 50, 54 and 58 degree wedges just like mine. Try them and you'll love them.Read full review
I've always been a loyal customer of Taylormade's products. Probably cause I like the looks and the feel of their irons and drivers. The reason I purchase this wedge is because as a golfer, I would replace my wedges once a year. As most golfer knows, it's hard to replace wedges. They are the most used iron, just behind putter. It is much tougher to find a replacement because one need to find the exact loft, lie and bounce of the wedges to maintain what we were used to. For xFT wedges, all I need to do is to replace the face plate to get new grooves, and the loft, lie and bounce remain the same. Also, no need to fill up the landfill with used wedges. I hope in the near future, Taylormade would applies this to the irons as well.
It's a shame Taylormade superceeded this type of wedge as there is none like it from any other manufactures where the face can be exchanged when showing signs of wear, the club has great swing weight for a 50/06 gap wedge, this is my second xFT wedge my first one is a 58/09 strong lob wedge which I would kill for - a magic club to use, I will be looking for other's to add to my 'club stock' for the future.
I decided to buy these wedges because of the interchangeable face. I figured why not spend 80 dollars now and buy some extra faces and have wedges for years to come vs. for a year or two. These wedges have the same face roughness as cleveland and titleist. So even if you get the Xft faces you will still have a good amount of spin. I will explain the spin I get from these wedges, at the driving range two days ago, I hit a full wedge shot and when the ball landed it was in a half mud puddle and I could see a roster tail of water and mud coming back towards me. I have seen some reviews that said that these wedges sound clunky, but I haven't had that issue. They actually seem really stable and consistent. I know if I make a full, 3/4, or 1/2 swing he ball is going to go where I want it to at least distance wise. Overall I think they are really good.Read full review
I bought this wedge because of the name. I beleive in Taylormade products. I play only Taylormade. I have had many different sand wedges in my years of golf, and nothing has ever felt right. Everyone has a sandwedge it seems. So I bought this wedge hoping it would be the one. This is the best sand wedge I have ever owned. I have been able to get up and down out of the sand trap 8 out of 10 times with it. I have already had 1 eagle and 2 birdes with this wedge from the sand. I have only had this wedge a short time and I love it. Best wedge out there.
