Perfect fit under my dslr. I do recommend looking online and downloading the USA version of the manual. A couple of features are better explained there. Its performance is impeccable. Records up to 24 bit at 96Khz which is the sound editors choice, yet I'm using it at 16 bit x 48Khz without hesitation for its crisp and clean audio at that setting. Uses AA batteries you can get anywhere but can be powered either by a USB charger or a USB Lithium phone backup and that's a plus for the travelling film maker. Records 4 tracks, stereo or simply mono either for editing or rush delivery. I have a couple of Teac sound products still running after 20 plus years of use an abuse. This one promises to follow upon such reliability.

Not enough gain to be useful, otherwise has great features. By the time you pup up the gain, the noise in unacceptable.

This product is excellent for recording audio of great quality. Its four channels are optimum for social events like weddings, we can connect, i.e. an external stereo mic, even wireless, and use the built-in stereo mic for ambient sound. With this configuration we may have everything we need. Or maybe we can use four external monoaural mics for recording a band music. Anyway, there are many useful combinations. The file formats are of CD audio quality or higher, which is great. Definitely you can get much higher quality than the internal mic of a DSLR. By the way, this recorder has an ergonomic design which allows you to attach it to the DSLR and a tripod at the same time.

Many of the functions on this recorder work really well. But one very important function does not . And considering that this recorder was designed to work with cameras it’s shocking to me that they would have let this out of the factory with this flaw. The audio out causes a huge amount of noise to be transferred to your camera. It’s well documented and the fix is to buy a $30 cable which is not the end of the world but the cable only reduces the noise by about 90%. There still a considerable amount and if you are using a recorder like this you probably want clean sound. You simply won’t get it with this Tascam . If you were just using the recordings inside the Tascam , your sound will be excellent but if you want your camera to record via the Tascam, get something else.

Great little field recorder. Could use more external controls with less menu moves, but keeping those functions in the menus keeps the size small. Overall, works and sounds great. 4 XLR's is a big plus.
