The recorder was very easy to get started in recording, with a lot of features for future uses that have a little higher learning curve. The enclosed owner's manual was good for getting started but I had to access the "Real" manual on the web site. (PDF download) The only bad thing about the device is the battery does not last very long, and the cord for external power is very short so you have to be close to an outlet.

I was looking for a fairly inexpensive ($200-$400) portable recorder to record band rehearsals with a minimum of fuss. I was not expecting professional-level sound, but a decent, quick recorder for us to critique the band, and to play back through the mini-jack onto a powered speaker. Should have been suspicious when the device came with not a page or two, but a book of instructions. So far, we have not been able to figure out how to label the various tracks, or to find a way to quickly find the song we just recorded without going through a litany of menus; and even then, some tracks just "disappear". I'll probably keep it since it was "only" a few hundred bucks, and to return it would be more hassle than working around its design flaws. On the bright side, the DR-44WL does make some pretty good quality recordings- when you can find them!Read full review

This is not made anymore, but I got it for the WIFI connectivity which works either directly to the DR Control app, or through a WIFI router. I am running on an iPhone 13 pro max and it works great. Gives me control of recording levels, record, pause, mark functions and others directly from the phone so if the recorder is mounted where I can't get to it easily, I can still control it.

First unit had a pulsating noise when wi-fi is on and was sent back. Second unit was a keeper. It is plastic all over, however it doesn't cost as much as Sound Devise, and for the money it does what it suppose to. Wi-fi remote was a main reason I need it, noise floor is a good enough, +48 - I'd say, these are the main factors influenced my choice.

Great small compact and powerful device for recording on location, 2 inputs, with phantom power if needed. My only snag with it, or upgrade I would like the device to feel a little more solid. The outer case is a plastic cheap feel, and the images from Tascam make it look like a solid heavy device, but it isnt. They should have taken some tips from Beats audio and added a weight inside! or at least used a metal for the outside casing. Other then that its solid
