The mechanics of this lens are great--very smooth and quick. It's a big lens, too, but is nicely weighted. Sadly, the optics just aren't that great. At the 90mm end, it's not so bad, but when you get out to 300, image clarity drops considerably, and the chromatic aberrations are very noticeable. I'd say the latter is probably on par with most kit lenses. Is it a terrible lens? No. But, if you're looking to do some shooting from a distance, and image clarity is important, you should pass on this one. Attached image was taken handheld with a Sony A58, ISO 3200, f/5.6, 1/125s. Subject was in the shade during early evening on a sunny and clear day.
