I use this 2 meter rig in my Jeep and is easy to use, very clear audio on a small 1/4 wave mag mount antenna. It took me about a hour to program 88 frequencies manually by hand even though I have the program cable & disk. I want to know how to program all of my rigs manually in case TSHTF. The only issue I had was my Jeep has floating polarity at the fuse panel that would lock up the radio and I had to unplug the power cable to turn off the radio. I had to find a good path through the firewall to connect it straight to the vehicle’s battery, works like a champ now. The only drawback on this rig is it has a push button (P2)to turn on/off the squelch but seems to work just fine on simplex operations. The secret to programming this rig is using the VFO button on the handheld mic to add a frequency and then use the Function button (F) to set & lock it into a channel of your choice. The only thing that was tricky about this rig was setting the power levels but became super easy once I figured it out. Just hit the (F) button and the the (P1) button for each power level. The power levels is 10,25 and 65 watts but given the mountainous terrain where I live, 25 watts seems most ideal. The offset and PL tones are set with buttons (P4) & (P5) and then save each step with the (P3) button. Very simple by Chinese made radio standards and much easier than my Boafeng radios. The body of this rig seems very rugged and durable. If you are familiar with the Yaesu FT-2900r, it’s built very similar with a fan and heatsink that protects your coax connector and 3.5mm plug for headphones or external speaker. The speaker that comes with the radio is loud enough but a little tinny but sounds just fine with an external speaker. It comes with a pretty cool mounting bracket that allows you to start all four screws and then slide the rig into place into the bracket, almost as easy as the Kenwood brackets for radios 35 years ago but easier. This makes mounting the rig easy for radio cabinets and go kits simple. The handheld mic has some very bright LED lights with two slider switches, one to turn the LED lights on/off and the other to lock up the keypad. The cool part is the mic cord has plenty of length and not super short mic cords like on all those Yaesu radios. No more having to lean over and put your whole face in front of the radio in order to use it. BTW, this rig doesn’t come with a mic clip, at least the two radios I bought didn’t. It didn’t seem to bother me because I always take a narrow 6” piece of aluminum, bend it into an “S” to hook it into the air conditioning vents in all of my vehicles in order to not cause permanent damage to the vehicle’s interior. The SWR readings were very good also, 1:1-1:2 ratios, 10 watts vs 65 watts. TYT seems to have engineered a great rig here and I also bought the 220 MHz version of this same radio because I was so happy with this one. This radio seemed complicated at first with the (P1-P5) buttons but as long as you hit the (P3) button through each step, it was super simple to program. TYT must of had military personnel in mind to make it as simple as possible to program this rig without the owners manual later on in the field. The only negative thing I have is to not bother to try reading the Chinese to English owner manual, it’s not spelled out very clearly and not easy to follow at times and to me was a waste of time. There were a few good references but I’m hoping my review makes it easier to understand the just of the programming in order to accomplish the programming on the fly in the field where it counts the most. If you’re into EmComm communications, this rig is up your alley. What I would like to see TYT do next is to engineer at true Tri-Band radio that can do 2m/220/70cm in this same format and that should be a real winner! Overall, I give this radio 5 out of 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ !!! Todd WH6DWFRead full review

I have purchased several Asian mfg radios during the past 3 years, this TYT seems to be the best so far. Full 60+Watts on high as claimed, 28w mid, and 10w on low. The receiver is very good too, picking up distant stations the others could not. Robust heavy metal exterior, I just hope it keeps going months later. (I pray)
