I have been enjoying using this router to provide a good signal to our smartphones, Rokus, smart TVs, wife's PC on other side of the house from our cable modem, and other smart devices. Because nothing lasts forever, I like to have spares of products that work well, and therefore bought this unit to use when/if it is needed. I also bought a third one to give to a friend whose current wifi is weak. I have found that this TEW-711BR, while rated as 150 megabytes/second, produces signals recorded as high as 40 megabytes/second (at 30-40 feet from the router) down to 18-20 megabytes/second at the farthest room in our home (about 80-90 feet, through walls). This is more than adequate for fast downloads and un-buffered streaming. Setup is also relatively easy, and allows personalized security to safeguard home network.Read full review

I bought this router because I was getting a weak signal in the basement of my girlfriends house. I was needing to use my laptop and hook up a Wii. Her old Linksys G router was not reliable, it would go from good signal strength to no signal and back, never a reliable connection. I hooked up my newer version of that Linsys router that had worked throughout my larger home and again same poor results. When this router came on sale for $20 shipped I decided to give it a try. I got it hooked up and it will show from full signal strength to low signal and then no signal at all. It will connect only for short periods of time. I contacted technical support and asked about updating the router as I have read some other reviews saying this helped the consumer get a better signal but they told me that since it was connecting to not even attempt to upgrade it. That made no sense to me and I am unsure if it has the latest updates or not. Regardless this should not enhance the range. I believe there may be some thick concrete between the upstairs and downstairs at this house which makes it more difficult to get a wireless signal through. Since this is not a location I will be using long term I was not interested in investing in any expensive solution. A booster could help but I would invest in a better router instead. On the top floor, the same floor the router is on it works fine where there is a Kindle in use and I can connect with other devices such as my laptop or Motorola Droid Razr cell phone. Those same items have similar poor connectivity when attempts at using them downstairs. So for $20 this router seems to work ok if you do not have obstructions that make it difficult for weak signal such as this router generates. It is also limited in the amount of devices that can be used with it at the same time since it has a combined maximum 100Mbps (advertised). This is the lowest end N router this company makes. If you have a fast internet connection or multiple devices in use at the same time then you could run in to issues with this router becoming a bottleneck. Also if you have devices that utilize N band I would also suggest getting a dual band router so that you can maximize the routers capabilities (bandwidth). While this N band router is capable of working with earlier G or even A band signals it uses the same signal for all of it making it less efficient than a dual band router. I would only buy this if you are on a tight budget and have a fairly slow internet connection and very few devices that use it. Otherwise I would suggest purchasing a more expensive higher end router. If you have devices that run on both G and N bands I would suggest a dual band router. I have a Gigabyte dual band router that works great in my home where I have multiple laptops and even streaming HD video running at the same time, it is well worth the money. So if you only have an average speed ISP with few devices running at the same time and there are no significant obstructions to the signal this may work out for you as an inexpensive router, I would certainly not pay more than the $20 I did. Otherwise I would say to not waste the money on it and instead spend a little more money and invest in a router that will allow you to use your devices as wanted at the fast as they are capable of.Read full review

This router is rated Good which means it is on the low end of mbps scale. However, for home use with no gaming it is awesome. Using it without a desktop, had to install with it wired to laptop, but after configuring the router with password protection etc. was able to disconnect hardwires and use wirelessly with laptop. Great little router, easy install, would recommend.
good for price
