Burt Lancaster is never less than great. This is set in WW2 France as the Nazis retreat from Paris. In the process they attempt to steal all of the famous paintings they can gather, load them onto a train and head them for Berlin. Burt plays a RR executive that is also an underground resistance member. He tries many ploys to hinder the progress of the train on it's route. War action, explosions, train wrecks and espionage are constantly going on. I first saw it years ago, have seen it several times on TV and now I have viewed it numerous times since I purchased it. It will always be one of my favorites!

Great movie! Interesting and engaging plot. Wonderful footage of railroad locomotives and general train scenes, including many closeups. Burt Lancaster gets his hands dirty as he does an excellent job in playing a French railroad worker who is resisting the Nazis in the final days before Paris is liberated by the Allies. This is the same director as for the original version of The Manchurian Candidate.

A classic movie all the way around...Lancaster, Scofield, Moreau, and fabulous characters across the board...and a storyline you won't forget. Set in the most tragic period of human existence, B&W reinforces the insanity of WW2 driven by evil.
