I've had one of these for a few years now with no problems. I bought another when my carrier kept claiming it had a problem. As it turns out, it did not, the TD8616 modem I had is still working well, but now I can tell them I put in a new one and then they won't be able to claim that. I've read elsewhere that the TD8616 is one of the best, most reliable ADSL2+ modems, so since they are discontinued, I'm glad to have an extra just in case it ever quits. Buy one - or two - if you plan to be on DSL for any significant period of time.

Compact size, does not get very warm but still it's a good idea to put 1/2" high or so stick-on rubber feet on the bottom to increase air flow. Works well, has IP address for changing settings.

Excellent! We needed to upgrade to get enough speed for our Apple TV and this works very well. Easy to hook up.

Instead of renting a "gateway" (combo modem and router, usually wireless) from your Internet Service Provider, you'll save money and get better results by buying your own modem and router. This modem is fast, reliable, and runs cool. The only caveat is that it's only ATM, not PTM, so won't work with current deployments by Sonic (in California).
