Like others, most likely, I first heard the song "Breathe" on an episode of Stargate Universe, loved it, went on an internet search, and found this cd. I read other reviews about it, decided to go for it. It's not the music genre I would normally listen to, but it has a certain sound and feel to it that I find very appealling and relaxing. Alexi Murdoch has a way of harmonizing on his guitar that really grabs me. The sound sometimes has remnants of blues guitar, yet it isn't really blues. Tho I do have my favorite songs (like "Breathe"), the entire cd is great- I listen to all of it, not just certain songs over & over. I like it when all the songs on a cd have a similar sound & feel to them so that there is a cohesive blend of what I wanted it for in the first place. I don't like it when I play a cd that has these wonderful sounding songs on it, then suddenly this song will come on that is totally out of sync with the rest of the music and disrupts my listening experience. This is NOT one of those cds! It delivers all the way through! I highly recommend it!!!Read full review
Alexi Murdoch is a newer musician hailing, I believe, from Scotland. I first heard him on NPR.org's Song of the Day, and his sound was immediately reminiscent to me of Nick Drake. This CD showcases excellent song-writing ability, beautiful guitar work and a smooth, mellow voice that even retains a bit of his Scottish accent. I saw Alexi play a record shop in Seattle, and his stage presence was mild, laid back, funny, and just plain cool. Excellent show. I highly recommend this CD, especially to any fans of indie folk rock: Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, Iron & Wine, Rose Melberg, or Jose Gonzalez, etc. (the list could go on and on... but you get the picture)
Both of my cd players in home and new GMC have a hard time playing or reading it. It will play in my home with a couple of reloads but not in my new truck.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: New
This is a sincere performance by Alexi. The lyrics are thought provoking, and honest. The music is a great mix of higher energy, and gentle rythms. I am so drawn to Alexi's voice. It is sultry and seductive, very smooth.
If you have a love for British Folk music and deep admiration for Nick Drake, you will love this CD. The first try by this Scottish native living in LA leaves you begging for more. Romatic, emotional, moody and melodic. If you have any doubts, I encourage you to check out his website/myspace and listen to "All my Days" or "Orange Sky" and you will be hooked. Buy this CD.
