Kubrick specifically shot his films in fullscreen, so they could be matted in theaters for widescreen and air on TV without cropping. Smart guy - but this has led to confusion on DVD releases of his films, which usually only feature the fullscreen version. However this 2-disc special edition of "The Shining" features the theatrical matted version, enhanced for widescreen TVs and also includes lots of bonus material. The BEST Stanley Kubrick film of ALL TIME!
This is absolutly the BEST Stanley Kubrick film of ALL TIME! Jack Nicholson is EXCELLENT in his roll as the father. I really love the way that the film shows Jack Nicholson's character falls deeper and deeper into madness. Shelley Duvall also does an EXCELLENT job of playing the devoted, and later, terrified wife. Additionally, the cinematography in the film is EXCELLENT in using various odd angles. Including some shots like the ones where the camera follows the son as he rides his Wheely down the halls of the hotel.This is absolutly the BEST Stanley Kubrick film of ALL TIME! Two Disc Special Edition
A film by my favorite filmmaker, based on a book by my favorite author, starring one of my favorite actors. That is what makes this one of my favorite films of all time. This is a great dvd. The picture is clear. They did a great job. This is the widescreen version, enhanced for widescreen TVs. That means you get a full picture, but without the black spaces above and below. The sound quality on this edition is superb. Disc 1 is the movie itself, and the theatrical trailer. There is also optional commentary by the guy who did most of the filming and a movie historian. great insight into Kubrick and the making of the film. Disc 2 contains 4 documentaries, including a "making of" doc shot by Kubrick's daughter Vivian. There is also an optional commentary in which she tells a few stories ... When he arrives there with his wife and son, they learn that the previous caretaker had gone mad. Slowly Jack becomes possessed by the evil, demonic presence in the hotel. This movie has enspired alot of famous people it has been shown on shows from the simpson, futurama,family guy ect ..and music sliptknot and 30 seconds to mars ect..and even shown in movies like twister. just watch it really good movie.Jack Nicholson and Stephen king classic must watch!!!! I can relate to Jack Nicholson's character. I like how you not quite sure if it is a ghost story, or mental illness on his part.
