This is indeed one of the best Muppet movies ever. It also has a lot of firsts. First Muppet movie made after Jim Henson's death. First Muppet movie directed by Brian Henson. (Who, it turns out, is a very capable director) And the first Muppet movie released by Walt Disney.I would rank this second in my best Muppet movies list. Behind The Great Muppet Caper. But only barely. Some complaints aimed at the Widescreen releases is that the song "When Love Is Gone" is absent from those releases. Here's why: When they previewed the film, they saw little kids getting restless during the song. So they cut it from theatrical release. But they re-inserted it into the home video release because they figured home viewing is different from theatrical viewing and the song would play better at home. So the song was NEVER in the theatrical version of the film. They only time the movie was released in widescreen with the song was the Laserdisc version. Since Disney has to make a new master for each format, and the Laserdisc version is non-anamorphic, the song is cut because they use the original theatrical copy. I personally find it interesting that 2 versions of the film is out there. So watch the movie. You will enjoy it.Read full review
This is a great film for the family to enjoy. The Muppets telling the classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge and Christmas. Of the two Muppet themed Christmas movies, this is much better than the one that came out more recently. The image and audio quality is great. I just wish Disney would track down some other "extras" to include. I used to have a VHS tape with trailer, I found a good copy of the trailer online, but it was not included on the disc. Other than that, great film.
First off, I love the movie. The sound quality and the image is amazing in blu ray. Like watching a whole new version of the movie. You notice more of the sillines happening in the background of the main characters. That being said, this anniversary edition is incomplete because the song "The love has gone" was taken out of the movie and is not available in the bonus features as a deleted scene. It has a making of where you see part of the scene and the video quality is good. You can only get this scene in the dvd release. That's the only complaint I have.
