Another installment in the scrumptious Goldy Bear the caterer and sometimes sleuth series. Only this time the affair to be catered is her own wedding. Her teenage son, Arch, is alternately curious, helpful and cautious about all the changes in his Mom's life. The church where her wedding is supposed to take place is under construction. And the priest who is supposed to perform the marriage ceremony has been brutally slain and her groom-to-be, Tom Schulz as chief detective of the local sheriff's department goes to investigate, and promptly disappears. Weddings are always stressful, some more than others! As always, Davidson has created a complex and entertaining story. Davidson manages to emphasize the power of faith without getting "preachy". Well-written, fast-paced, and with some of her most delicious recipes yet. Her Chocolate Peppermint Wedding Cake looks both traditional and delightful. The Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms with Chicken & Pesto recipe is already in my recipe file. If you haven't already discovered this series, I highly recommend Diane Mott Davidson's Goldy Bear the caterer. If you like well-written mysteries, a heroine who is a divorced, single mom working hard to establish her business; raise a teenage son; and have a life - you will enjoy this series. I love to read books by Diane Mott Davidson. The recipes and the murder mysteries keep me reading, making the book difficult to put down, not to mention the delicious recipes. The first book I read was The Cereal Murders and got hooked right away. The main character, Goldie, is in her 30s, a single mom(at first) and it is nice to read about her falling in love etc. I would recommend not only this book but all Daine Mott Davidson books for mothers to read because they are entertaining and help us come up with new recipes for dinners.
You will really enjoy this book. Goldy & Tom get married but it’s never without complications.
