You know, Science Fiction should be fun to watch. This was very painful to sit through. Well, if you force yourself to sit through more than 15 minutes in the beginning, hoping to see something better towards the end, then don't let the television waste another watt of electricity on this film. Not that the film goes down his, but there is really nothing to work with here. The idea of future dominating armored robot is quite original, but the screenplay is just pitiful, full cheesy lines and stupid clichés. Don Wilson stars as Tallis an elite soldier who is sent in to wipe out the drones. Seems the drones are robotic police officers who are trying to wipe out humans (Although they aren't seen doing anything outside of shooting at Wilson) and our burned out hero is aided by Katee Sackhoff who inspires him to fight to the death, in this completely routine Sci-Fi action flick. The only thing The Last Sentinel has in its favor is that it far exceeds any Sci-Fi channel movie, however the reason is because this film was not made for the Sci-Fi channel, hence why the movie is competently made even if it isn't all that interesting. Don Wilson is okay in the lead role and some of the shootouts are well staged, but generally this is mediocre stuff that doesn't leave much of an impression. Basically what you're watching is 93 minutes of gun-fights. Gun-fighting that is so badly scripted, you wonder if the writer ever saw any action. Crossing the line of fire, shooting from the hip, never reloading, and to top it off, diving in the water to escape the detonation device immersed in the water. If you are military background, you might just watch this as a laughing material, but if you're not, the only reason you might want to watch this movie if you're the family member of the cast/crew. There are several revealing mistakes in the film. When Tallis and the girl jump out of the window, and Tallis blows a hole in the street so they can fall into the sewer. There is a shot from under the water that shows them hitting the water and then swimming back up to the surface, but the next shot shows them stand up and the water level in the sewer is only knee deep. Again, Towards the end of the movie, three red drones are hunting Tallis in a sewer. The water level is only knee deep. Tallis dives under the water’s surface and the shot shows him swimming in water that is waist deep to the drones. The next shot shows Tallis coming up out of the water behind the last drone & killing it. However the water level is only knee deep. Tallis then ducks back under the water and we see a shot of him swimming around again in water that is at least waist deep. Again, before the end fight, the super drone shoots Tallis' gun away, which is lying on the ground. The rope which is used to pull the gun away is visible. A bit of trivia about the last fight scene is that David Mattey, who plays the Super Drone, was wearing a suit of armor and prosthetic appliances on his face and full colored eye contacts, the type that surround the whole front of the eye, greatly restricting your vision. To add to the difficulty the scene was filmed in the rain and at night. Mattey ended up being a better swordsman than his stunt double, who ended up sitting out the scene. Also, this is the only film in which Don Wilson starred in but was not advertised by his ring name, The Dragon. The writer/director Jesse V.Johnson is a brilliant stunt-man who had worked on MI3, Terminator, & many more.Read full review
Let me make it clear, this review has nothing to do with the seller of this item. The movie "THE LAST SENTINEL" may very well compete for the worst movie EVER !!! The writing is AWFUL, most of the acting is crap, and over all just 1 horrible movie. The only thing good in this movie is KATEE SACKHOFF, which is the only reason i bought it.She is good in it (as good as she can be),and is the only reason to watch it, unless of course you like bad movies. It takes place in a post apocalyptic world (there are alot of flash backs)with androids who run things.the hero is an ex-soldier with a talking weapon & Along the way he runs into a girl(Katee Sackhoff)who tells him of a place that makes the androids that they try to destroy. If your a movie/sci-fi fan, you'll notice while watching this movie that alot of the story ideas are from other movies, just pieced together. There were some things i liked here & there (other than Katee), but it reminds me of something that would, should & has come out in the 60's & 70's as far as action scenes and special fx.I gave it a "below average" rating and thats only because of Katee's performance....it should've had a much lower rating, unless of course you like bad movies.Read full review
