Although the film may be heralded by many Wes Craven fans as a wonderful remake of an old film, I must agree with many who saw this film in it's unrated form, that it may just have stepped over the edge of decency. All films try and tell a story about tragedy of evil versus good and the innocence taken away from others, but I think the killing and raping scene within this film puts it way under my line of human decency. Many scenes of this film where quite enough on their own, but showing cold blooded stabbing and rape of young innocence girls, goes way too far. The tenseness of the film was enough already, but why do we actually have to be shown this type of horror. The desensitizing of our minds happens to happen slowly to the point where we think, oh wow, I guess it's not a good horror film unless you show the gore and horror outright. I hope to never see anything so graphic again in my life and could not imagine the direction spending so much time showing the actual act for such a long extended period of time. If you happen to spend time seeing this film, I would hope that you watch this with the intent of agreeing with me, however, it may not be that shocking to you as it was for me. I'm going to give this film an average rating of 3/5 because of the content, yet the tenseness and scariness will probably keep you afraid of strangers from here on out. This is the original from 1972. The remake was in the late 2000's, 2006,2007 or 2008. The original sucked. It was filmed like a lame "B movie". The acting was horrible. The acting was obviously staged. There was no communication betwen the parents of Mari to let us know what they decided to do. In the remake the decision was obvious. The fight scenes were stupid and they were shot and edited stupidly. There was nothing about the acting that made me sit "on the edge of my seat". I was "on the edge of my seat" when I saw the remake. I saw the remake first and a friend told me about the original. I ALWAYS keep a DVD I buy. I gave the DVD to him. There was nothing about the acting or the communication in the movie to portray the fact that this was based on a true story. The girls acting was stupid. The three killer's acting was stupid. The whold original movie was poorly filmed, acted, edited, directed and produced. Like a cruiser is going to run out of gas. Give me a break. That's the first thing a cop does. He fills his tank. The entire original movie released in 1972 is a joke, a lame "B" movie, an embarrassment to the remake, poor acting, poor lighting, not enough dialogue, stupidly written script, dumb remarks, poor fighting between the men and women. I think the original is just a stupid movie.Read full review
I have the orginial version of this movie. The first make was bad, but remember that it was made BEFORE all the slasher movies ever came out. AND before the discovery that there could be money made on good horror movies. Anyway, went to see the remake in the theater and WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!! The remake is 10,000 times better than the orginial! It is really intense and the bad guys really get theirs! It is not for the faint hearted, but any true horror fan will love the remake! Can't wait to own it again! Just beware because it is not clear which copy you will be getting here on ebay. The remake stars Tony Goldwyn (Dad), Monica Potter (Mom), Sara Paxton (Mari) and Garret Dillahunt as Krug.
saw the movie years ago, and wanted a copy
