Problem with older grid tie inverters of high voltage is that they shut down when the public utility power goes down. I.e. you have non operational system If your PV array system is under 300 volts certain types of switching power supplies can convert high voltage DC to lower voltage DC as well as AC 120/240 to lower voltage DC. This device worked well with my 290VDC array. First isolated utility power, then array power and shut off grid tie inverter. Clipped on to neg. and pos. of downstream on DC array breaker and connected pos. wire to L and negative wire to N. Works well. Got 24.1 VDC from this adjustable supply, which is ok to run my 24vdc battery bank attached to a 15KW split phase pure sine wave inverter. Cost was a lot lower than using other types of inverters. This could be used in long term utility disruption. A USB listed (gray cable at hardware store), buried or above ground cable could carry the 290VDC to the power supply near the battery bank. I omit safety, charge control and monitoring accessories for brevity.Read full review

Great power supply for my Revolectrix lipo charger, supplies much more power than I'll ever need in the near future. It's a little loud but I don't mind because I don't want to forget I'm charging lipos! With the proper jumpers and an external switch it's easy to turn the unit on and off, and it supplies a steady source of power for me.
