I have been looking for a strong 3 wood for a while, and found this 15 degree TaylorMade. It goes about 15 yards farther than my weaker Cobra, so I am happy. I am still trying to figure out why I am hooking it so much, but eventually my body will figure it out.

I purchased my V Steels around December of 2005. Within 3 weeks of practicing with these it has helped my game amazingly. I used to hit a 5 wood about 175 not with the V steel it is up to 200. My 3 wood traveled about 200 and with the V Steel my distance is now 235 or so. It has changed how I play short par 4's around the 320-360 range. I used to hit a driver and if it went straight (until I bought a PIng G5) I was in that awkward 60-80 yard range. Now I can use my 3 or 5 and lay back with a comfortable 110-120 shot and choose a nice pitching wedge or sand wedge into the green and swing full. The clubs have a great feel and a great sound. I play the stiff shaft and have really found them to be excellent. If you can find them get them, they will be a great addition. I paid around $100 a piece for these new and it should be easy to find them in that price or a little less. Adding these to your bag you will see a great improvement quickly in your game and especially your confidence....Read full review
The V Steel is not the newest fairway wood produced by TaylorMade but it is the best in my opinion. Even better, you can pick one of these up for a bargain price compared to the newer models. I have tried them all, R7 Steel and R540, both have too low of a profile which promotes too high of a trajectory for a fairway wood and is not easy too use off the tee, the R5 Dual and Burner, too large of a head, more suitable for the tee versus the fairway. The V steel has a compact head with a mid face height which makes it both workable from the tee and fairway and even the rough at times. The most versatile of TaylorMade fairway woods. Nice sound and feel at impact with a peircing trajectory and penetrating distance. The stock V Steel graphite shaft performs well. I would not recommend this club with a steel shaft. Performs far better in graphite. I would highly suggest giving the V Steel a try before investing in the newer more expensive models which are inferior in performance in my opinion.Read full review
I rate this club as excellent. The reason I do is that the club is so consistent. The first day I practiced with it and I hit high long soft hooks that went about 180 yards. The next day it was a crosswind against me. I hit a small hook that consistently was going beteween 155- 16o yards. It did not matter what type of lie I gave myself, the club easily went through the grass, or out of divots. The club performed equally well on the course, the ball landed on the green, on good hits. On sweet hits I was tapping in for birdie. This club is really consistent, a soft high flight with the wind. A nice driving flight into the wind.
I have 2 of these clubs, both with the TM steel shafts. 15deg and 18deg. I do not carry at the same time, but find the 15deg to be a great tee club, but I find it less ideal at getting much altitude from the fairway, unless the ball is setting up in the light rough. The 18deg club is ideal in both situations, but it does give up a bit of yardage off the tee. This really is a great club, and all I can say is that I have tried many. The club sets up perfectly square, the club height seems to be just right as the tee clubs tend to have large faces with high sweet spots, and the fairways clubs have a very slim face that provides minimal confidence if one has any north-south variability in your swing. I usually carry the 15deg with another 5W, unless I am walking in which case I throw the 18deg in the bag, and save the weight of an extra club. There are many choices in FW woods, but none are really much better, but enjoy the search.Read full review
