The Sweater Workshop By Jacqueline Fee copyright 1983 The Sweater Workshop contains no specifics, a detail you will quickly notice. Yarns are not stipulated; the customary comparison chart is missing: needle sizes are not recommended; gauge is not prescribed; and there is no columns of sizes and numbers (some in parenthesis). The elimination of these restrictions allows you to design a sweater in an atmosphere of creativity, and with a spirit of adventure... Knitters and spinners - free at last! Take a day to knit the unique sampler from clear, step-by-step instructions in this book, and you'll be free forevermore to knit your yarn to your gauge into the sweater of your design - with no tedious pattern to follow! It's all here; clearly illustrated and described techniques, "gauge Page", and dozens of photos in color and black/white to teach you, inspire you, and set you on your way to beautifully fitting, seamlessly constructed, fast-knitting, long-wearing sweaters. Detailed procedures for your "basic sweater", and then specifics for over 20 handsome variations plus accessories. You'll understand knitting like you never did before, and you'll never need to buy a sweater pattern again. The Basic Sweater Variations developed as the result of Elizabeth's inspirational sweater. The motivation was compelling to knit another from its mold. Offered here, in this section, are directions for varying the neckline, and for varying the style form a pullover to a cardigan. Then, if in an appropriate pattern, either style may be worn inside out, a tribute to the sweater's pure and simple seamless construction.Read full review
This is an excellent book for people who want to learn how to design their own patterns. Jackie's instructions are down to earth, easy to understand and straight forward.. She doesn't tell you how to follow a pattern, She explains how to design your own knit garments, to fit the size body you are clothing... She is wonderful, and this book is a wonderful resource....Painters paint, sculptors sculpt. carpenters build and knitters knit... Get a tape measure and design your own garments... it is really very simple... Once you let Jackie explain it to you....
I'm an experienced knitter, but will be attending a workshop and The Sweater Workshop will be used as a text - what a wonderful discovery in finding this book on ebay. Thank you so much. Anne Smith
