Gordon Lightfoot is still, after all these years, one of the finest songwriters and musicians on the planet. Wow. I'm on a mission to get every song he has ever had published.I'm well on the way,& this great album gets me closer yet. As a Wisconsinite from near Green Bay, I cried when I first heard "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", and it still stops me in my tracks to hear those unmistakeable opening chords. I must stop what I'm doing, and acknowledge a master of his craft while listening to those truly evocative words. It's one of a very few songs that I can truly imagine myself THERE. I'm back in a raw Wisconsin winter; snow blowing, winds howling, bones chilling...awesome songs are on the whole album. This was a good purchase. I am most happy with it.

I have enjoyed Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" for more years than I care to admit to. I had the vinyl album a long time ago and when my stereo died, I couldn't listen to it any more. Now that I have it on CD, I can listen to it again. I should note that having the songs in a non wave or MP3 format was a bit of a problem. I found a free program to change the CDA format to a MP3 format that most computers use. I have not tried it in my car.

Growing up in a rock-n-roll environment, and being the youngest of five brothers and sisters, I can't remeber any Gordon Lightfoot albums ever being played to influence my musical flavors... I suppose I remember 'Sundown' catching a fair amount of airplay... BUT when I heard "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" for the first time, I was mesmerized! And growing up in the upper pennisula of Michigan put this story in my backyard. Peewee Charles pedal steel work on this album is nothing short of magic. This instrument I usually detested being an enemy of country music but Peewee plays with a totally different feel...very non-Nashville. And of coarse Gordon is at his full prime here. I don't believe he ever catches the magic of this album again although his two following are certainly fine works of artistry. If you want to sample Gordon at his best (short of a greatest hits), this IS the one.Read full review
not only does this include one of lightfoots biggest hits the wreck of the edmond fitzgerald, it is also a very solid album all the way through, the house you live in ,ruins, and title song summertime dream are all very solid songs. as well as the others on the album... and as always gordons voice is a big plus... the album is one of his better albums, id probaly suggest this and gordons hits 1-2 than youll have most of his best songs....
Great Gordon Lightfoot CD. I had this album & it was my fave. Takes me back to a young & carefree time in my life.
