I seem to be one of the few who liked this movie but I stand by it. It is more thoughtful than a typical action flick and more spectacular than an art film. I can see why it might put people off. Action people want simple while art people want quiet. Sucker Punch is neither. It operates on three levels of reality. I found it clear but if you don't pay attention you miss key plot points. To get the most of this movie you cannot turn your brain off. It is a raucous ride and if you don't go with it you miss out. I really liked this movie. I highly recommend it full well knowing it will only appeal to smart action movie fans.
Produced, Written and Directed by Zack Snyder, Sucker Punch starts out with a young girl (Emily Browning) and her younger sister learning of the death of their mother and dreading the fact that their Step Father will now be in charge of the household. Only things do not go as planned and "babydoll" (Emily) is sent away to an asylum for the criminally insane. While there she is sent on a wild journey of discovery as she tries to find a way out. This is a bazaar movie that is part movie and part video game. The lead characters continually find themselves in fights to the death with impossible forces in a dream world. The movie also stars: Abbie Cornish as Sweet Pea, Jena Malone as Rocket, Vanessa Hudgens as Blondie, , Jamie Chung as Amber, Carla Gugino as Madame Vera Gorski/Dr. Vera Gorski, Oscar Isaac as Blue Jones, Jon Hamm as the Doctor/The High Roller, Scott Glenn as The Wise Man/The General/The Bus Driver, and Gerard Plunkett as The Stepfather/Priest Below par acting and story make this a movie that is probably better rented than purchased.Read full review
Attention movie lovers, there are bleeding hearts out there dirtying this film. I am a movie collector and a serious critic of bad flicks but this one ain't it. I have read other reviews on ebay and in the papers and saw many people criticizing the movie by depicting it as low as a close kiddie porn piece. Come on!! Those must be women that do not get any candy in life because this film is nothing else but a showpiece for women taking charge. Of course, it is lead by sweet gorgeous young girls and it is sexy as hell but this is just the honesty it needs to really show what might be going on in the head of a powerless and abused teenager girl. If I had my way, I would do this... and here is the movie is really all about. Women in charge breaking loose in full handle of their sensuality. Nothing dirty in there but raw action. Yes, it is edited as a string of videoclips. The action of the movie is situated in a dream within a dream in the final seconds of a terrible faith. Computer game style is perfect for that theme. The sequence over Jefferson Airplane's WHITE RABBIT is just awesome and incredible. Emily Browning and the girls are just plain foxes kicking butt to samourais and German Nazis. Quick some scenes. And the punch will blow you away!! Straight A movie.Read full review
Wild, unpredictable, unique, is how I would describe this movie. A hard to follow story plot line. Engaging soundtrack that brought me back several times to watch again. A movie that you can't quite figure out, but that stays with you. The excellent music is almost outdone by the cinemaphotography, almost surpassed by the excellent acting. A must-see movie. Brian B.

I bought this because it looked visually awesome and in every way it is visually fun. The movie has some hard un-artful transitions from for lack of a better word dream sequences, but the concept was new. The subject matter is very dark and not for children. But in its own way the movie is profound. It is one of those movies that could easily have been the Matrix or 300 had the editing and transitions been just a tad better.
