After reading the "Harry Potter" series twice; I was left with trying to find an author with the near perfect "voice" of J.K. Rowling, who could tell a riveting tale that would draw me into the story. After stumbling upon her book "Trials and Tribble-Ations" (which she co-authored) I decided to read more of her works starting with "Ship of the Line". I was skeptical since over 100 "Star Trek" books have been written since the cancellation of the old NBC series but I was really wowed by this book. You don't have to worry about reading dozens of books in order to thoroughly enjoy this adventure which neatly ties Jean-Luc Picard, James T. Kirk, and Montgomery Scott in a nail-biter of a romp through Star Trek history that brilliantly blends the original series with the New Generation. The humor and the emotions and the story itself just work perfectly together. You'll have to see for yourself in this spectacular saga. If you've forgotten what "reading for pleasure" is all about, Diane Carey will give you a double dose in spades with this one.Read full review
This story by Diane Carey is nothing special. After reading it, I thought it was fine, a nice enough read, but just not special. Carey does o.k. at relating the well-known characters from the series, but I didn't find her writing all that creative. Its not a bad story and if you like Star Trek you will probably find the story somewhat enjoyable. If you are looking for a really fantastic Star Trek story this isn't it.
