This book incorporates 2 of Andre Norton's very best earlier stories. They take place 4000 years apart, the first when Terrans break into an already populated and very suspicious galaxy. The 2nd, Star Rangers, was actually the story that instilled my love affair with science fiction over 45 years ago. It has a wonderful mix of pathos and tragedy, combined with a speculative hope for the future when Terran descendents accidentally return to their long lost home world while fleeing a disintegrating galactic empire. If you love stories combining a bit of future science, mystery, and archaeology with concepts of honor and integrity then you will enjoy these stories. If you are disturbed by the idea of alien cultures being considered "human" in character or bothered by the idea of telepathic communication then this story is not your cup of tea. I've enjoyed Andre Norton's earlier novels immensely up through the Witch World series when fantasy started to dominate.Read full review
Very good stories, love the author and have read many of her other books. Even though this was written 50 years ago it still sounds current.
