Filmmaker Kevin Smith interviews Stan Lee on his lifeworks and eventual job as Marvel's head publisher. The first VHS cassette contains early stories on how Stan Lee got involved in working with comics and his eventual editor's job at Marvel Comics in 1961. The discussion focuses on how Stan Lee's characters of the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, X-Men, and revivalization of Captain America saved Marvel from demise. The second VHS cassette focuses on his Spider-Man character; how it started in Amazing Fantasy 15 and all through the later years in Amazing Spider-Man and Peter Parker's growth from skinny kid into a superhero. Stan Lee did a great job in telling us about his works and how he got the ideas for them. Stan Lee also talks about Kirby, Ditko, and Romita - the 3 great artists of Marvel early years. Most of the discussion revolves around Spider-Man, so there are only a little bit said about his other works. Kevin Smith is not a good interviewer, but Stan is able to carry the show on his own. A good documentary to watch if you like Stan Lee and his Marvel works. I give it 4 stars because it is quite informative and interesting to hear how he created the idea of Spider-Man. Make some popcorn, watch the cassettes, or the newer DVDs, and have a good time.Read full review
