Just lost this review and starting over-damn. Bottom line, I've been carrying these knives For more than 16 years in various Federal agencies as a Supervisory agent, LEO, DoD bodyguard, Security Mgr etc. I've given them as gift to Doctors In our family and friends. This fully serrated razor sharp Knife is attached to my car and I always carry one On my belt especially when driving, riding with a friend, and is Never used for anything except an emergency--- cutting seat Belts, etc. I carry a second one for chores around my 15 acre homestead and keep it razor sharpened. Excellent build , value, and price! I'm, disabily Retired now and carry it everywhere, except where NOT allowed to. Not a toy, can sever a finger or Chunk of flesh in a split second of stupidity. The Is a professional grade tool for cutting "CUT RESISTANT" Material. Ideal for Fire, Police, EMT, military, etc. Paratroopers, Pilots,SpecOps, etc. Are issued almost and exact copy ,but with H2 highly salt Resistant blade material, but with same razor Sheepfoot style Blade to cut away their primary chutes if entangled during or After landing. Taxpayers pay $100+, but I owe my Freedom to ALL of THEM as you do!!! So bill away Spiderco (: I just can't afford yours)):: Full transparency: I have no vested interest In this product in any manner. I have purchased All 7-8+ I've owned or shipped to others.Read full review

I use this knife almost everyday. That being said it continues to work well for me as a knife. The problem is in the material. Byrd is the cheap brand of a Spyderco. As far as I can tell the difference is in the materials. This knife began forming rust on it within a month of my usage. Nothing overly catastrophic, but rust is like cancer. If you let it grow it will destroy its host.

Compact and extremely sharp. Not easily opened one-handed, but this is a plus for my use as it is much easier to present to authorities as an EDC/utility, "not looking for trouble" knife. In practice with bag it's difficult NOT to deliver devastating strikes. Matriarch II has fast single-handed deployment and can inflict greater damage, but is more problematic with Law Enforcement and Judiciary.

I don't carry this knife for self defence because it's blunt point makes it very difficult to do any thing by slash! That being said I would not want to be slashed by this knife because it cuts through everything I've tried it on with the exception of cloth which tends to make any serrated knife bind and is another reason I don't think much of it for self defense. When I'm working in my garden though I call it my mini machete, I can also cut 1/2" limbs with 2 strokes its so sharp, and keeping it sharp is as easy a few strokes on a wet stone once a month.

I had carried a spyderco rescue clip it for about 20 years when it finally failed. Since this was the closest I could find to my original I went for it. It is a good quality knife especially for the price. Only drawback I have found is the clip being metal and not part of the molded handle has caught on things twice and bent a little. I have just taken it off with start bit and bent back to keep the pressure up on the clip so it still grabs my pocket firmly.
