It is a good thermometer with some predictable limitations. Since it clings to a window, the temperature reading is somewhat affected by the difference in temperature (inside vs outside), especially if you have it on single pane glass. Direct sunlight will also make the reading significantly higher. Finally, since the needle/hand is set back from the dial, you need to look at this straight on, at a 90 degree angle, to get an accurate reading. That's the bad, but since I'm not using this thermometer for scientific research, good outweighs the bad. The best things about this thermometer are the fact that I can read it at a glance from across the room, and that it is reasonably accurate - if you understand its limitations. Add to that the "Springfield" brand name remains, even though Springfield Precision was bought out by Taylor/HoMedics 10 years ago and production was then moved overseas (...and that's another good & bad for you to consider).Read full review

Though I am going to purchase another one of these, I am doing so with the knowledge that it may well not remain adhered to the window, for such was the case with the first one purchased - with the onslaught of winter, the thermometer's edges began to peel back, eventually causing the item to fall off the window. Sad... This is a great outdoor thermometer: Easy to attach, large numerals make it very easy to read, the contrasting black outlined in white numerals allow you to see them at night, as well as in the daylight. You get a lot for your small investment. I am surprisingly pleased, as I'd been searching without success for an outdoor thermometer with these qualities for a very long time.

This is the second Springfield Thermometer we've had and been very pleased with both. Over time, the edge of the base started to curl but the thermometer had been in that location for close to 20 years. Not an issue when it could well be cleaned and reset which we hadn't done. There is no need for any connections indoors as it's located on a window outside of where we enjoy breakfast and soak in the view of the Okanagan.

Spend big bucks on a weather station or a pittance on a thermometer that sticks to the outside of your window to tell you to put on your coat and wool cap before you open the door. At the same time, you can see whether it is raining so you can put on your raincoat. If stuff is blowing away, it's windy. Who needs an electronic digital weather station for that?

We have had several of these. They cling to the window outside and seem to work really well. They are easy to read.
