Although this score is not an improvement on the original soundtrack (how could that be topped?) it does present the songs from a nicely done different perspective. The really neat thing about this score is that the songs are presented in the chronological order of the movie, and the liner notes give the corresponding explanation of what is happening. In this way you can mentally relive the story and its emotions in your mind while you listen.

When I originally purchased the movie on VHS it included the soundtrack free on cassette tape. I cannot imagine that the CD sounds different except for better quality. I played the soundtrack many times while traveling and it brought tears to my eyes just as the movie itself did. I believe that this Soundtrack is worth keeping, if you loved the film then you need this CD.
Of the various recordings of this should-have-won-an-Oscar score, this, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra recording is my favorite. It's bomabastic, it's sensual, it's inspiring, but it is not rushed by the extremely capable baton of conductor Joel Mcneely. All that's really great but it's Dougie McLean's fiddle that sends the shivers down my spine. It's as if his playing comes right out of the earth itself. It's viceral and relentless, but I hate when it ends. (The Kiss and Promontory) Get this recording and turn off the cell phone and turn the music up. Just let it wash over you like a pure, roaring 18th century North American river!
This soundtrack is so moving, so emotional, and my heart and soul are touched each time I listen to it or watch the movie . It is very beautiful!!

I was glad to find this CD. I love the movie and have not had the soundtrack since I lost the cassett years ago. It's the remaster so the one track by Clannad was left off for some reason. Overall very pleased. OUSMO92
