I needed a self powered sub with stand by and volume control plus an adjustable x-over that pumped out 150 watts under three hundred dollars. This SONY SA-W3000 was a perfect choice for my ONKYO 7.2 Im able to boost the the woofer 12 db on the OYNKO then turn the bass up on the SONY SA-W3000 to overcome its laid back nature. The SONY SA-W3000 blends well with my POLK AUDIO monitor 70's , R-300's , R-15 's and CS-20 center channel, I looked at other subs but price and frequency response plus features sealed the deal. On a serious note if you like ear bleeding chest rattling bass for extended periods of time the SONY SA-W3000 will over heat go into protection mode, just unplug it and its back in action ready to serve. I've put in protection mode one but I was testing it to the extreme it passed mind you I have it 12 db boost on max loudness setting on the unit plus bass up on the EQ. I LOVE IT. I'm buying another one to match. I suggest you buy it if you have a flexable head unit with a very good sound processor if not it makes a nice end table rattles windows...Read full review
The back story: I recently installed a 7.2 surround system at home. All Sony speakers and Sony power also. The room is about 20' x 24' with a 13' high vaulted ceiling. I use four of the Sony SA-W3000 subs for my deep low end and two of the Sony W2500 10" subs for the low/low mid. It's incredible. These subs reach down to 20Hz. That is really low. The low E note of a bass guitar is 41 Hz. These babies drop down another octave below that. Perfect to reproduce the LFE of TV and movies. The SA-W3000s have a 180w internal power amp, adjustable level control and variable crossover. The unit also features multiple input/output configurations including a pass thru jack. You can chain as many as needed together. There's also an auto off switch in back and a power status light in front. I am completely in love with these subs. Affordable, plenty of power and awesome audio capability. While watching movies or TV, the couch doesn't just vibrate, it moves. It feels like an earthquake tremor. Seriously. I am not exaggerating one bit. I run the SA-W3000s at about 40% power with the crossover around 70Hz. That lets my fronts pick up the lows they're designed for and leaves my subs to pick up only the lowest frequencies. I cannot brag on these subs enough. Yes, I have four. The room is big enough to justify it. By stacking all four (2x2) in the center of the rear wall I can run the power down on them and still get maximum coverage with volume to spare. I whole-heartily recommend these subs. Awesome Value, Awesome Sound. Now days I listen to music at about 10 - 12 volume setting on the amp. It's plenty. Nice thing is with all the low end power I'm running there is still plenty of thump at even those low levels. It's a smooth system. Not stressed so it is really a clean sound. Another tidbit... I have all of my subs and mains sitting on top of Vibra-Pods to isolate them from structural transmission. Wow. Incredible Difference in clarity and sound stage accuracy. Best sounding system I've ever heard- from old school jazz to lo-fi rock. Come on over for a demo! Addendum: I got a new 70" HD TV and decided to upgrade the system a bit more. I've added two more of the SA-W3000s. All six stacked together causes acoustic coupling to occur. This increases the apparent output by a few db and seems to drop the frequency response down another Hz or two. The Bad News: These subs have been discontinued. Periodically you can find them here on eBay as NOS. Buy 'Em Up!!!Read full review

I am a electronics guy that loves subwoofers, movies, and music all together. I recently bought this subwoofer for my house because my new car cannot really have subwoofers put into it and I like to have some bass once in a while. I went to Best Buy and checked out the SA-w2500, and that one sounded good so I only new that a 12" (or this sub) would sound even better. I quickly found this one on ebay and purchased it. After it came from UPS and I installed it (took 20 seconds of course) I was bassin' up my apartment. Soon, I had all of my wall hangings on the floor and a few notes from the neighbors on my door. If you are looking for a good inexpensive way to bump up your sound system at home, this sub is for you, if you can't handle good clear bass, buy something cheaper.
Its not an game changing super subwoofer, but it's also not a 100 watt RCA or a bookshelf stereo sub either. It does have a good clean smooth sound. No baffling from the port with high excursion which is hard to find a lot of times. Good subwoofer to run with a pair of 150-200 watt floor standing speakers. Anything bigger than that it's going to strain to keep up with. For its price ($99-$150) you arent going to find anything better.

The sub sounds great. It really adds depth to the system i already have. Great bargain. Cant express enough how much it expands the system I currently use. It by far enhances the deep bass quality. I bought this item because I watch a lot of movies and listen to a lot of music. I like to experience the movie in its entirety. When a building blows up I want to feel it and this subwoofer handles the job perfectly
