The Sony prs-300 e-reader is thin, compact, and best of all, equipped with a sturdy metal casing; it’s a pleasure to hold! On the down side, there’s no backlight, only three font size choices, and you’ll have to side load books onto it via cable from your computer. Be sure also to get a Sony or compatible aftermarket charger with your purchase as it won’t charge via usb. That all being said, I still like the unit for its durability, solid construction, looks, and feel. They don’t make ‘em like this anymore...

Still have to figure out how to load book's on it. It doesn't have a internet connection. The hard thing is trying to download from the computer to this ebook. I haven't used it, so ask me in a couple of months. I guess that's why they quit making this version. Nice size.

The thing about these readers is that it's not the device, it that they change your world as a reader. The store is now an internet connection away. That is the huge difference. The other one is that you now carry dozens of books around in one little device. Wonderful! Yes, I am an electronic reader fan. It's changed my reading for the better like nothing since learning how to read. Love it! My point is don't get too hung up on the device side of it. It's not the major part. You are going to be thrilled with whatever device you use. Having said that, there are things about the different readers that may enhance your reading experience from one to the other. Size is is the biggest thing for me. I didn't think so at first but I love this pocket reader for that one feature more than all the others. Yes, you give up some screen real estate with he Pocket Reader but that hasn't been a problem for me probably because I always read in the small or medium font (yes, you can size the text for small, medium and large and small and medium are close to what you get on a print book). However, my wife like to read in large charachter mode so I probably wouldn't get the Pocket Reader for her. She has the original six inch reader screen now and when she upgrades, she will go with the larger Reader screen version. I haven't used the touch screen models yet. They make turning pages easier. I am more of a minimalist myself and I see it as ust something else to go wrong. However, it's one thing you should try out before you buy. It's not going to be a big deal one way or the other so don't get too hung up on it. Just something to consider. I do wish Sony had another page turning button on the right side of the Pocket Reader but it's not that big a deal. All and all, I love the size and usability of the Pocket Reader. I read a lot and this just flat out does the job for me. One final comment on the Wireless issue. The Pocket Reader doesn't have this feature and it's never been an issue for me since my laptop is always close by. Also, I don't read the newspaper or magazines via the reader. If you were planning to do so, you probably would be better served by a wireless device and defiantely the biggest screen you could live with. Also, it's my feeling that if you don't have a color display, then you won't like reading magazines in black & white. With newsprint, it will be the pictures and graphics that the small screen doesn't translate well. Not many color devices out there right now and it's a battery life trade off. In summary, if you are an Avid reader and don't own one of these readers you are really missing out. The Sony Reader is has been a real treat for me and I couldn't live without it! Hope this helps. Good reading!Read full review
I bought this e-reader because I was going on vacation and wanted to do a lot of reading but needed to pack light. I was on a budget and I already have a nice laptop and phone so I just wanted a basic e-reader. This product is several years old and there are much nicer products available that are more like tablets, with a touch screen and wifi, etc. This product only does reading and nothing else (no color screen, no music, video, or wifi, etc.) It was a perfect fit for my needs. Once I started using an e-reader I was hooked, it really is much more convenient than regular books. Only major con is that it lacks a backlight so you can't read in the dark. Battery life is good, the print is easy to read and can do 3 different sizes, and it's slightly smaller than your average paperback.Read full review
I bought the reader, because I wanted to try an ebook reader. to start is a good device that fulfills its mission. works great for people who do not want to customize so thoroughly how to read, but want a device to read already. The interface is simple, but is lacking in options. although it is a device in 2009, does its job well. has 3 zoom size , brings some fonts but not over there. Its size is comfortable enough to hold with one hand and support the epub, pdf, txt, and doc(the reader software convert into rtf) It's not possible to read in the night, unless you have a cover that has some light. one drawback is that it's not possible to update the firmware, such as Kobo or Nook. although there is a very interesting option PRS +, an open source firmware that enhances the capabilities of the device, giving a dictionary, a translator and even games ( I tried in the mine, and I feel is more responsive in menus and opening ebooks). It is 100% compatible with Calibre, so you'll have no problems with e-books, You can too sideload ebook, It is a good e-reader, although this time, there are better options within Sony as the PRS-T1-T2 or PRS, and others like the Nook Touch and the Kobo Touch that give more capabilities and allow us to make many other things. if you want a good e-reader, and not very interested in the options you may offer and just want to read books, this may be your e-readerRead full review
