Sony's MicroMV digital recording tape format was the smallest, most compact digital recording tape format ever built. Although it was phased out of production in late 2003, this format was top tier in performance and compact size. Sony has had a history of "failed" formats which include Betamax, Umatic, NT Microcassette, MiniDisc (MD), Hi-MD, Digital-8, Hi-8, Video-8, DAT, UMD, Memory Stick, Micro-DV, ATRAC3, DCC, and the Super Audio Compact Disc (SACD). While many of these formats have failed or will R.I.P. within the next couple of months or years, the technology has been superior for its time. The MicroMV was the smallest digital video (DV) tape format ever made and was great for people who needed a compact recorder with DV quality. Now obsolete, you can still buy used players on eBay and new media tapes and head cleaners on the web.Read full review
