Having accumulated many CD's over the years I still value having a good CD player, and owning a unit that can hold and play 5 disks in succession is definitely handy as you no longer need to change disks one at a time. However, the real plus for me regarding this unit is that it seamlessly moves from track to track. On certain CD's, such as classical pieces (opera, choral works, symphonies, etc.), the music is sometimes divided into multiple tracks, and I've had issues with other brands that abruptly transition from track to track. That is, the music suddenly stops and starts playing again upon moving to the next track. In the past, I've noticed that SONY units generally do not have this issue, and when I needed to replace my previous unit, I was discouraged to learn that many 5 disk models have been phased out and discontinued from manufacture. I took a leap of faith based on other customer reviews to buy a used model of this product, and I was greatly relieved that it worked as I expected. Keep in mind though that this model does not have an HDMI connection, but it does have a connector for an optical cable, which is what I use.Read full review

This unit can be a little loud when changing discs, but it seems to play every burned DVD I have. Every Sony unit I've owned works for me, even though i hear of other people's woes when it comes to sony electronics. Updated 6-17-08 to say: I want to add that the up-conversion of this DVD Player is very very very good. I watch movies on my flat-screen HD CRT more than anything by far, and the quality of all my old SD DVD's is unbelievable. It's like I have never seen them before - every movie is new!! With digitally produced movies (like Star Wars Episode III) the picture looks 98% like true HD. It really is impressive. Up-conversion is the biggest issue with DVD players for HD systems, as I hear most built-in TV converters are sub par - as well as many home theater receivers - so yes, in the end I'd give this player a 5 out of 5, except the changer is just plain loud. No other complaints and have been using now for 3 months everyday for 6 hours on average.Read full review
