I have found many products from Sonance under rated. The 50Wrms at 8ohm per channel ASAP2SAT is no exception, can also be run into 4ohms at 65Wrms. With the balanced input through the LR1 module I have had these amplifiers connected to my Anthem D2V source while running the output to Mirage M-1si's or M-5si's, Polk SRS 1.2tl's, Reference 3a Grand Veena's or Martin Logan Aerius i's setup for both stereo and 5.1 surround at various times. The result has been, for most speakers, a rich and detailed sound that is a little warm on the bass. Comparing it to several other amplifiers also run with the same speakers through the single-ended output of the D2V, same source material and cabling (aside from the balanced versus single ended connection, interconnects were both Tara Labs Spectrum 2A) was a delight. First comparison was a Classe CAV-75 at 75W per channel. The Classe was more detailed in reproduction of the soundstage but lacked depth whereas the Sonance did not present a wide soundstage but had much more depth and wood instruments such as guitar, cello and sitar were reproduced very naturally. Second was a Chiro C-500 which is one of the closest to tube sound solid state amplifier I have heard. This wasn't a fair comparison knowing how both sounded at this point, the Chiro had it's high end rolled off and bass was muddier than the Sonance but it had better control in the very bottom end. Last or first chronilogically was a Rotel RB-976 which was only slightly more expensive when released around the same time. I have to say that up until this point I though that Rotel was pretty good... to put the sound difference mildly it was like a Clairtone console system from the 70's. Voices of both genders were veiled and sounded like they were singing away instead of at me, very little focus across many instruments aside from percussion and a varying soundstage that made me shut off some songs. Switching back to the Sonance lifted the veil and turned the singer right towards me and music no longer had a cool, lifeless feeling to it. I may be biased but these were one of the best bargains when they were released and by far one of the best deals now since the resale price is so low on them. I have 6 of them, 4 currently in my theater and the other 2 in a bedroom and workshop with those having the AL1 automatic source selection input module installed. I highly recommend this amplifier to anyone who is space constrained, these can even mount flat against a wall! They stay cool so airflow isn't required but it would be a good idea for a little space around it.Read full review
