It’s good for a portable unit, I think even better than the s3 and s4 that came after it. These units will always have about 2/3 the range of a really good wired unit, but I’m not out there trying to cannonball the desert every day. Where it’s helpful is in those situations where you are leading a group of cars and then you get a squawk. A lot of times I’m near the speed limit anyway, but in those cases where I’m not it has saved me. Ignore Ka radar signals at your own peril; it picks those up well. These are now out there cheap enough to put one in more than one car.

Had other makes of radar detectors, which I felt were disasters. Escort Passport Solo is very accurate, tells me of radar a good distance in advance. It is also very compact compared to other brands and easy to program. The detector has a very good battery life and only uses 2 double A batteries. I prefer the sunviser attachment rather than the windshield (eliminates the use of suction cups and reattachment. Overall the best radar detector I have had ( 3 different brands)
This has to be the best detector I have ever owned. It is well shaped, with no bulges and just looks good. I chose not to use the windshield suction cups as I don't like the mess. I ordered a visor clip from Escort, got it quickly and now just clip it to the sunvisor. The batteries last a long time, at least for me, as most of my driving is to town and back, but that is a 35 mile round trip. VERY sensitive unit, and not a lot of false signals. I have two vehicles, so now I own two of the Solo's, and clipped to the sunvisor, they are never in direct sunlight so I don't have to take them off every time I get home. CONS: only one, the volume is somewhat low, especiall if you are listing to the radio, or have the window crack an inch or so. But again, my hearing is now as good as it used to be. For a good all-aroung radar detector, you can't beat the Solo, and best of all, NO curly cord hanging all over the dash. Bob, East Tennessee.Read full review
Good range, loud enough and has mute button. I love the automatic feature.

Excellent, radar detector. highly recommended, easy to use and operate. Keep the batteries fresh though.
