My parents used to have a bunch of Stills, Nash, Young, & Crosby (and various combinations of those singers therein) records. And I remember my dad in his big jean bell-bottoms and big hair-sprayed hair pulling these black vinyl disks ever-so-carefully out of their liners and placing them on the recordplayer only using the palms of his hands. I have no idea what happened to our family albums, but I remember the music. And I've always wanted (somewhere subconsciously) to get my own recordings of them. So, "So Far" is part of my journey back into my childhood music memories, and it's more potent than I remember. This album is legendary; it's in the halls of historic "American" music. It tells of a time in the 60s when there were civil clashes, because people felt a power to band together and try to create change. The album cover is an illustration by Joni Mitchell (to boot). The songs which are like the B-side songs on this album shine just as brightly as the A-side. (Okay, yeh, I miss the vinyl.) The harmonies are so beautiful - a blending of 4 guys' voices in a way that's familiar, not distant like church choir harmonies. Some of those songs have moved me to tears, because they feel so real, and, well, they bring back good memories of the 70s.Read full review
A great mix of popular songs from two earlier albums; (CSN-self titled & CSNY-Deja Vu). However; if you really like this band it is probably better to purchase the two earlier albums in their entirety because you are going to miss out on many good songs. Either way this band did a great job defining the mood and popular sentiment of many people during the late 60's; early 70's.

Everyone changes, even if only a little bit, with time. The music on this album are some of my favorites of a younger me. Its helps me remember and reflect on who I was then and now. Lots of fun memories and ideals that are similar, The path chosen to accomplish them has changed a lot over time.

It almost doesn't get any better than this. I listened to and learned these songs as a child. My mother had a van and she drove us everywhere with our friends. We would sing along to these tunes. We especially loved "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," "Our House", and "Teach Your Children." As an adult, I can appreciate more some of the less commercial songs, such as "Wooden Ships," "Guinevere", "and "Deja Vu." This is classic, true, edgy rock and roll.
I love the fantastic voice of Young on this CD- just great! Songs like Teach Your Children, Ohio and Suite: Judy Blue Eyes really bring back old memories. The Crosby, Stills, and Nash are a great group but with Young in the group he really adds some special harmony. It's slower music than I usually go for, but it has a wonderfully, reflective and meditative mood. Enjoyable as background music or right up front and center.
