Great book from an unorthodox and lateral thinking racer. He developed / engineered some amazing methods for his NASCA racer. Long live in memory of Smokey, a genius in automotive !

Having been a engine builder in many forms of racing, I am a firm believer that Smokey has forgot more than most of us ever learned. A new engine builder can read this book and gain a lifetime's expierience in one day. My copy has hi-liter yellow on every worn out, dog eared page. For those of you who arent familiar with "southern" english, here is a rule of thumb... When he says pay attention, he is telling you something he has spent millions of dollars and thousands of hours proving! I re-read this book trying to find an example of how time may have passed his knowledge base by. Guess what? It hasnt! Major auto manufactuers and aftermarket parts companies like Chevrolet and TRW hired Smokey to do the research on thier major designs. He is the man who designed the TRW forged piston. almost every other racing piston you buy is made from a forged blank puchased from TRW. The basics never change in race engine building. Read and learn from a true master. Thanks, Tom WilliamsRead full review
This is a good general knowlage base book. It has many theories and old school way of doing things but is not very specific of how to do anything. Basicly it points you in the general direction but does not tell you how to get there. For the knowlage of Smokey this book leaves alot to be desired, and should not be considered a manual for engine building but more of a guide of how it was done in the hey day of racing when it was not required to spend thousands of dollars to go race on sunday.
Great information
