The Smart parts Ion (Smart Parts out of business, but now back as G-O-G) is a really great gun. Weather you are just a beginner or a seasoned player. The gun as itself (stock) is really great. If you tweak the trigger and know how to adjust your pressure properly it can really be beast on the field. The eyes can get dirty quickly so think about investing in a barrel "swab". TOP 3 upgrades (totals to about $300.00) - Virtue Board (chip that revolutionizes the gun, so many firing modes, makes you feel warm inside.) - Virtue Eyes (break beam (not just reflective) laser that goes off of RF/reflective and physically present laser beam.) - this is so much better because if the eyes are on you see the blue (what i have in my gun.)and the virtue board blinks blue as opposed to the red that gets old and you cant tell after a while. - upgraded trigger (definitely get a trigger upgrade. the ultimate response of the virtue trigger can't go without a proper trigger. - these upgrades will get you a gun that is unstoppable. Wins: Low budget pneumatic gun. infinitely upgradeable air saver Ops: notorious for leaks (if not lock tited) can be smaller in size....take it as you may. Prices: (Ebay) Gun (EBay): $145.00 (with accessories) Virtue Board (ebay...only board! not w/ LED display): $100.00 Virtue Eyes: $19.99 Trigger(crazy paint-NY): $35.00 --------------------------------- total spent: $294.99(cost of more expensive guns without these upgrades.)Read full review
This is a good, clean and accurate firing paintball marker for an intermediate or advanced player. Tons of ways to upgrade (although it is an older model, parts are still easy to get). Shoots fast and straight and reliably with an electronic hopper feeding it, and haven't chopped a ball yet in two years. However, disassembly and cleaning is not for the faint hearted (if it weren't for the complex disassembly, I would recommend the Ion for a beginner as well). The internals seem about ten times as fragile as other (even electro-pneumatic) markers that I have owned, and disassembly and cleaning is not particularly intuitive - and the manual gives a good step by step but omits some 'would have been useful' pictures. Overall, an excellent paintball marker for the price!
17 balls per second semi-auto rate of fire with 3 shot burst, 10 bps full auto and our Rebound firing mode. Break-beam Vision Anti-Chop System Reliable and durable, the eyes are mounted on a separate board for perfect alignment and not affected by paint or body color. Just clean and replace (in minutes). A Featherweight Prizefighter At 2.2 pounds, the Ion is among the lightest high-end markers made, and it's tube design imparts an ultra low profile. Reliability The Ion was engineered to stand up to the demands of professional players. It will outlast what used to be considered high-end and won't break down the minute you get it home. Improved Ball Detents Approximately 10 times the service life of current detents. Great Efficiency Expect a reliable 1000-1400 shots from a 68ci, 4500psi bottle without any modifications. Accuracy & Range The trademarks you expect from Smart Parts. Body Kits A first for paintball. High-quality aluminum internals are protected by composite shells, allowing you to instantly change the color or look of your body. Tired of blue? Switch to red. Or black. Or yellow. And there are more body styles in the works...Read full review
I really like the smart parts Ion it is pretty easy to work on and fine tune. I have 5 of these gun I got three of them here off of eBay. They are simple parts are cheap and they are very easy to tune. I have had no problems with mine as of yet. The bolt is a pain to take out and clean, but during normal gun cleaning most people tear they whole thing down and relube it anyway. The gun stock is ok with a few modes it really will impress you. I would say a trigger and a feed neck are the first two places to start. I have upgraded boards and unless you are going to play in a tournament I honestly don't think the gun needs it. Third on my list would be a new bolt it will make the gun quiet and stop a lot of the kick. Then I get a better barrel and end it all with a QEV. I saw a review saying that the a hose blew off and something else. It sounded to me like the person that was working on it did not know what the were doing. The gun is very simple and you only need one allen wrench to take apart the whole gun. I would agree that you need to watch your eye wires when you are putting it back together so they don't get pinched but other than that the gun is great!!! And you can do any mods to it you want pretty much any color body kit billet upgrades with different annos. This gun really is a great bang for your buck!Read full review
Old Review: The marker with the 360 QEV (Quick Exhaust Valve) and SP (Smart Parts) two piece barrel shoots fast, consistent, and straight as an arrow.. I bought it for my gf, but I want to trade her for my Proto SLG UL, hers performs that much better. No ball breaks after 4 cases of paint. The gun is a pain to breakdown and clean though. Be careful with your banjo fittings and eye harness when reassembling the gun. This gun is a buy for sure. Oh, and lets not forget that the ION is one of the most upgradeable guns around like most SP offerings. Two weeks later: Board crapped out. A banjo fitting broke. The macro line was super difficult to reattach to the new board. No longer fires consistantly. Not a good experience. I have moved on to a pair of invert mini. If you have the money get an invert mini or an empire axe. If you dont have the money get yourself a really good spyder instead of this mediocre difficult garbage. If you must buy an ion, buy it new. You will likely be glad you did because of the warranty service. If you are trying to decide on a marker watch some tear down videos of the marker and watch how easy or difficult maintenance is on the gun. Also watch some out of the box test fire videos too. Do your homework. I did not and now I and my gf lost out.Read full review
