Fans of the psychological thriller are sure to find this game one of the most engrossing titles to date. This is widely considered one of the most terrifying games ever released, and it is easy to see why. From the moment that you enter the realm of Silent Hill, you find yourself in a constant state of anxiety, as the foggy streets hinder your sight down to only being able to see a few feet in front of you, while the town is filled with deformed monsters inspired by the work of Salvador Dali. A large amount of the time, your flashlight is the only source of light in the dark abandoned buildings you explore throughout the game. A broken radio quickly becomes a key object of anxiety as it starts blaring static when monsters start closing in around you. All this, coupled with a soundtrack that would make Van Helsing freak, elevate the anxiety to near maddening level. The game play is similar to Resident evil, as you explore the area and search for items to continue onward. The combat system, however, relies more heavily melee weapons than Resident Evil, which uses more guns to take down its monsters. Ultimatley, fans of Resident Evil will love this game. The story is a somber tale of a man searching for his dead wife after receiving a letter from her saying that she is waiting for him at their special place in Silent Hill. The story unfolds as you find other people who find themselves called to Silent Hill, who all seem to have chips on their shoulders. With plot twists that make you question the sanity of everyone, this is surely something that you can't miss if you are looking for story telling that will constantly leave you at the edge of your seat. My only complaint is the compatibility issues this admittedly dated game has with today's computers. However, with a little technical know how, and some web searching, even someone as unfamiliar with computers as I am can fix these problems on their own. (Konami's support page did not have the information necessary to fix the problem.) Overall, the amount of terror associated with this game may be a turn off to some, but the amount of depth in the story, and the way this game puts you through a mind trip, make this highly sought after game worth every cent.Read full review
You want a masterpiece that doesn't require a monster computer to handle such beauty? Look no further! This game is simply oe of the best! What made me want to buy it wast the features in the PC version that the console couldn't even support! [note- console versions go up to 480p] The resolution it has (1920x1600 max at 32 high color) Supported! Which add a strong realistic feel to the game! Visually stunning! I also like the "save anywhere feature" which wasn't even used in console versions. It's a master piece and can make a weak computer seem strong. I Loved the story! It's a sick twisted romance with more to discover as you progress. This game also comes with a sub story that can be used in the begining! (featured in some of the console versions) If you want to take a real good challenge in your English... I recommend you to put the riddle level high. This games story is very fun with a great plot and interesting characters. What I didn't like was that the game (pc version) was in CD-ROM format. (makes installation of the software take a little longer, which is worth the wait) I brought it because I am a collector and have a US version and wanted to buy an import... Uk edition (Directors cut) and see what more there was to discover. I enjoyed every moment of playing the game. This game would be a very wise decision of you to make if you were considering to purchase a masterpiece of a game!Read full review
The second game in the classic, wonderful Silent Hill series... I am a big fan. Alas, SH2 for PC is simply too glitchy (incompatibility issues with Windows Vista through Windows 10?). I've read through forums and searched the internet, from which I have found that the issues I am experiencing are common. Issue one is that when you play the game you have to "Run as Administrator" or you will not be able to save. Not a big deal, really. The larger issue is that while playing, when the game transitions out of a cut scene back into regular game-play, the sound of the last phoneme freezes and repeats indefinitely. While there is a patch out there to fix this issue, and some people on forums claim that this patch fixes the issue for them, it did not entirely fix the issue for me. I made it further into the game before the sound repeat issue ensued, but it did ensue by the third cut scene (graveyard scene). The patch is at MOD DB dot com. In fact, my issue may be different; while sometimes just the sound freezes and loops, much of the time the entire game freezes so that I have to restart my computer. All of this aside, the game itself is wonderful and a classic, we simply need someone to write a better patch to fix this sound loop issue. Perhaps if enough of us write to Konami they will help us out? I have done so, will you please help out the SH2 community and do the same? I hope I have save some of you some strife, and if you're a programmer, please write a patch that really fixes the issue and contact me. Thank you.Read full review

This is a strange game, sort of half 3rd-person puzzle-solving adventure game and half action game with fights with monsters somehow combined into one. Unfortunately, it may have failed to satisfy either fans. Storyline is intriguing enough, decent amount of searching and figuring out. But you cannot just pursue the mysteries, because you have to fight strange beings. I play more puzzle-solving adventure games than shooting/killing games, and as I played this game I often felt impatient while killing the monsters (which was rather tedious using the keyboard control) - I just wanted to go solve the mysteries! I am afraid for those of you who want some sick fighting and killing, this game may be too tame. This game was extremely popular on PS2 and XBox and was adapted to PC. For those of you who are used to point and click adventure game on PC, you will have a hard time, because you cannot use the mouse as a control. You have to use the keyboard, unless you have a gamepad or joystick. I didn't have either, so I found it rather awkward to control the character's movement. Graphics are OK, nothing to die for. Good spooky ambience, though, with things in dense swirling fog. Acting is OK, I have seen and heard worse in other games. Overall, I have to give it an average score, as I was not quite satisfied with either components of the game, mystery solving or fighting and killing.Read full review
