Sigma 300mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM Autofocus for Nikon AF-D. I researched and researched, until I found a copy of this lens and compared to the asking price(s) on comparable lenses, I settled on this one. This lens in crisp, snappy and does anything and everything that the Nikon version of the lens does and at a lower cost. I am loving the results on my D2Xs, D610, D300, and my D800 bodies. I would warn even the young strong men with lots of upper body strength that unless you are planning on shooting at a high ISO and wide open that it is a bid much to lug around and hand hold. My recommendation is at least a monopod and strongly recommend a tripod with a gimbal attached. Not finding much light falloff or softness around the edges so, it is a really good lens for wildlife and high speed sports action. The internal filter is an odd size (46mm) and therefore really good filters can be purchased without breaking the bank. I purchased a pre-owned version and a 2 year warranty to go along with it. Many owners of these type of lenses do not find it necessary to purchase the extended warranty and as soon as the HSM goes out, they sell them as is and forego having them repaired. I am a bit of a cheap skate so, the warranty allows me to sleep at night and since my tools are well cared for, it helps me to avoid the expense of purchasing a replacement at a higher costs.Read full review

Absolutely incredible lens. Comparable sharpness to the Canon 300 2.8 L in a more compact and more affordable package. Focus is lightning fast and accurate. Razor sharp when stopped down to f/4
Lighter than the Canon counterpart and sharp with my 2x II canon extender. HSM isn't as fast as USM but its not that much slower either.
