The Sigma 24-60mm is a very good short zoom lens if found in a price range of $200.00 to $250.00. Reviews of this lens can be found on several internet sites. One of these sites is fredmiranda.com under the review section, Sigma zoom lenses. Another Sigma lens in this zoom length is the 24-70mm Macro DG and is at least $100.00 more expensive on eBay. I think, this lens was produced after the 24-60mm and from a review may have a little better performance compared to its older sibling. However, I have not been able to find any side-by-side reviews of the two. The 24-60mm lens is smaller, lighter and use a smaller diameter filter in relationship to the 24-70mm. Both of these lenses can be used with the DX and full frame digital or film cameras. One reason, I looked at these lenses as well as they are much less expense compared to Nikon lenses in the same zoom range. Also, many of the other manufacturers only sold DX format lenses and wanted a lens for both formats. This lens would make a very good lens for any amateur or beyond; who does not need for an everyday workhorse of a lens.Read full review
A friend of mine invited me to her Holloween Wedding Reception. She asked if I could take some candid shots of the guests and their costumes, of course I agreed. I brought along my Nikon D-80 with my Sigma 24-60mm Lens and my Nikon SB-800. Having only used it for a few test shots I did not know the true capabilities of the lens, coupled with my camera kit, until that night. The shots were amazing and the clarity was wonderful. My friend did not think the shots were possible considering the lighting and comparison to the several point-and-shoots that were being used that night. So, I am a believer of this product. What I would have liked, however, is that the lens having an aperature of f/1.8. Yet, I can not deny that the lens I have in the 24-60mm made this a memorable wedding reception. I chose this lense over a similar Tamron lense with a longer focal length. I am very happy I chose this lens! The lense is fast, fast at focusing with my Nikon D300, sharp, and looks great! It is the perfect lens for any situation unless your photographing birds. It will also focus very close to subject which is kinda cool, leaves more room for creativity! If your in the market for a 24-60mm range, buy this lens and you won't regret it!!
This is my first 'PRO' glass and i'm very happy whith the image quality and sharpness of the lens, is very sharp from the 2.8 and tack sharp at 5.6 - 11, i have a Nikon d100 and a Fuji S3, in both cameras works perfectly, the AF is very fast. cons: Only the front cap, it's a pain to remove it with the lens hood on.
The 24 to 60 mm lens is a great in between lens allowing you to focus on an entire group or an individual without changing lenses. The Sigma lens is built like a rock and is a fast 2.8 On a 1.3 camera the lens becomes a 31.2-78 mm lens
