I had previously used this same Mic, therefore i was pleased with its quality in sound and structure. Back in the day I used the AKG D112 on tje road, until this Mic came along. The name brand of Shure has been top quality for years, so when this mic was introduced, at about half the cost of a AKG D112, i decided to try it out. Im glad i did because you cant beat it for the price and quality and sound. Everyone has personal preference and particular use and sounds that they want and need, so this was my choice. Its like TAMA vs PEARL, or ZILDJIAN vs SABIAN, or CHEVY vs FORD. Everyone has their opinions and wants and needs, but i choose Shure Beta 52A with a 24" TAMA Starclassic Maple Kick Drum and it Rocks! I also use Zildjian A Custom Cymbals, own a 1969 Nova SS 396/375 HP 4-speed muscle car, but I drive a 2010 F150 4 door 4X4 Pickup Truck! lolRead full review

I know - the title sounds a bit pretentious, but anyway, onto the Shure Beta 52a. This microphone is a workhorse in the Audio Industry, known for its unique pick up and definition of the low to mid audio frequencies, making it the ideal solution for micing up a kick drum or a bass amplifier. This particular microphone has a fat punch in the kick. It will produce a smooth round warm yet powerful doof which pleases every engineer's ears. and mixed with a shure beta 91, you can get one of the better sounding kicks through your PA system. I Purchased this microphone because of these unique qualities and sound that it gives. Almost every audio production company I have worked with owns a Beta 52a so it goes to show the durability and texture of the sounds it can reproduce, really makes this lovely microphone one popular tool.Read full review
The Beta-52 is possibly one of the most useful tools to have in your arsenal as a sound engineer or drummer. It looks good, sounds good in every kick I've ever used it on, and just plain works. Bought this beat up on on the eBay because I needed a second for a band I work with now and then. Best sound, consistently: Put the mic just inside the kick drum port, with the blue rubber line even with the port. It'll sound great in almost every drum out there. Plenty of FOOMP, THUD and CLICK, for almost any style of music. We do everything from metal to bluegrass. This workhorse get's it done.

I bought this Shure Beta 52 mic to upgrade my drum recording mics because I was wanting to get a better kick drum sound , what I like the most about it is that it has a good upper midrange to low presence EQ with a ample bass responce so when plugged in it sounds "right" to me straight out of the box so very little EQ is needed , I did alot of YouTube comparisons with headphones and between the Audix D6 ,the Sennheiser E609 ,the AKG D112 , and the Shure beta 52 , the Audix had a great sound with a scooped midrange to it but wasn't the sound I was looking for, the Sennheiser sounded great also with a very natural EQ to it, the AKG I didn't really care for in the comparison and also because I have a friend that uses them on a double kick setup and I didn't like the sound he got at all and didn't have the sound I was looking for which is the slightly boosted top end so you can hear the click of the beater without having to EQ as much and that's what the Shure mic sounds like to me , I may also get a Sennheiser E609 later becase I really liked it as well , all of the mics I've listed are great mics and very capable of getting good results , there's a sound that I hear in my mind that the beta 52 seems to match and with little or no EQRead full review
I have a few suitable mics for kick drum, but I'm really glad I got a beta 52a. Super solidly made, easy to place, and a big, punchy round sound that's distinctive and ready to use in just about any mix. If you have to pick one mic for your kick drum recordings, this is a good bet.
