This review is re-write. Historical research is a process. This disc should not be on the market. It is the'39 WPA.It betrays Show Boat It caused the slavery of Paul ROBESON 1943-1958;and hid the voice of John Charles Thomas JCT did a c.45 SB w/Army. Sources:The National Theatre Database; The original record c/w AU 1940;Robeson's-"The Complete EMI Sessions";own info, "Fredericks" records pre 1937 w/ two different vocalists. One named "Earl Wrightson/Charles Fredericks"; other unkown. Pre-1937 records of Wrightson/Fredericks are vast-by 1934: 1931 Blossom Time/Student Prince soundtracks,(by Joseph Toner, as per 6 NYTimes articles+by copyright) Eileen(only production) renamed White Lilacs 1926-33 Kern-2 are 1926 Show Boat 1928 New Moon PULITZER PRIZE Of Thee I Sing ORIGINAL PORGY AND BESS Electric The Desert Song Maytime(rec. The Shuberts had Stadium revivals of Show Boat in 38, 39, 43. The code read this record is made from 39/32. The age of each Track vary greatly. I own one of the cuts from Ziegfeld's original, transferred years ago. One of these cuts is from 1926 by Joseph Toner, AKA John Charles Thomas.Others 32/39."Cotton Blossom" is from 1932 Show Boat. After Pearl Harbor, it was trapped in AU so another set was sent to England. R&H hated blacks, and they had gotten what they wanted. So they made a report and Paul Robeson was prevented from working by the House on Unamerican Activities Committee by 43. His recording of Othello is still not released! Early Ziegfeld docs+records said Kern did songs/Hammerstein the story. Kern died& Hammerstein altered the date to 1928. He had to move those originals around. He wanted to revise history that Robeson had sung in the US in 32. He did not count on the English Commonwealth refusal to release this recording, as America refused to release Robeson. Robeson had actually done two "Show Boats" when he came here in 38. The one in 1938 was called C-55, still part of the WPA. So Hammerstein over Time called it a re-creation of the 1932 revival, then BECAME the 1932 revival. C-55, government property, as shellack, vinyl, tape, and CD made billions. On CD it said "Original Broadway Cast 1932 ShowBoat". It said Dennis King refused to sing "You are love". An original was needed for a C/W. The IBDB faked playbills, claiming King sang in 1927+Hot Cha the last Ziegfeld Prod. This was restated in the travesty by CBS/RCA-"1919 Ziegfeld Follies" SMITHSONIAN repro(MISSING FACTS:John Charles Thomas key to mass strike; picketed Ziegfeld, near arrested,STARTED AEA and THEATRE GUILD;+JCT=STEEL??) The Faked Playbill supported the Smithsonian Conclusions. This suggests that "You are Love" was only in the 1932 version, now in this disc. Ol Man River is by Paul Robeson 1939. Robeson sang Col.#610,this is #611,later Robeson sang a 4 albums #732.He was sileneced. The lead-Joseph Toner'26/32 It is ILLEGAL GOVERNMENT PROPERTY w/ Robeson, enslaved till '58- Joseph Toner was called in 56. I have lived with the 5 record album since it first came out. The actors were in the Broadway production and the feeling of that performance is overwhelming. The sound is not as good as the original but is cleaned up from surface noise and many artifacts present in the original. Spencer and Bruce are spectacular.
