I enjoyed this book. I really like to read about good things that happen for a change. Debbie Macomber really captures real life and the heartache that can go with it. In this book she tells of a man who turned his back on his family for a fast buck. Years after he builds his fortune, the vineyard that he owns is destroyed by a plight of bugs. This is when he finally realizes that he needs his family but refuses to admit it. Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy are sent to earth to help him find his family and make amends with them. Through these develish angels he finds his ex-girlfriend only to discover that he has a son. From his ex he finds that his son is a doctor. In his quest to meet his son, he gives blood only to discover that he is a match for a terminally ill patient. He goes through with the operation to save a live and in the process finds out that it's the grandson of a man he befriended years ago. This is a heart warming book that will tears in your eyes when you read it. I'm sure there is a little of this man in all of us. We all need a little nudge from above sometimes. I love reading about these three angels, they make my heart sing. It really makes me open my eyes to the power of prayer and the power that the Lord does have. It is a great story line. One we all can relate to. This is in such contrast to many books out there today with all the blood, guts and gore. I love a romance as much as the next guy, but this is a wholesome book that won my heart.Read full review
Great book by Debbie Macomber! I had originally purchased this book when published in 1999 but gave it away to my sister. Hard to find the hardback edition, but well worth reading. This is book #4 in sequence of the books she has written about the three angels - Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy. The first was "A Season of Angels" (1993); second "Trouble with Angels" (1994); third "Touched by Angels" (1995); fourth is "Shirley, Goodness & Mercy"; fifth "Angels Everywhere" (2002); sixth "Those Christmas Angels" (2003); and seventh book published 2007 "Where Angels Go." I highly recommend this book to others and to read all works published by Debbie Macomber!
All of her books are always good

If I could be an angel, I loved to be Shirley. The title caught my eye because my sister's name is Shirley. I love Debbie Macomber and have read many of her books. But this one of my very favorites, I love the humor and humanness of the Heavenly beings.
I have never read a book by Debbie Macomber that I didn't like. This book is very enjoyable and entertaining.
